Default LS1 to 5.3 swap questions

I have a 5.3L I intend to swap into my 2002 Camaro and had a few questions I hoped someone could help answer. Ive never done a motor swap like this before, so forgive me if these are noob questions, I did try to search a good bit before making this thread.

I plan to run an LS6 cam, 317 heads, and LS6 intake manifold on this motor.

The 5.3L is currently disassembled to the short block and the oil pan if off. Is there any maintenance I should go ahead and do while it is in this state? I have all the bolts from when it was disassembled to this point but imagine some are not reusable. It allegedly has 100k on it, and looks to be in good shape - I dont intend to do a full rebuild or anything.

How much, if any, of my accessory drive system from the LS1 is usable on the 5.3?

I figure at minimum I'll need a cam install kit, oil pan gasket, ls6 intake manifold gasket, different water pump, spark plugs, ??? am I leaving anything out?

Is there anything on a 5.3 NOT compatible with all the peripheral equipment installed on my car currently supporting the LS1?

Thank you!

Will I need any additional supporting parts for this swap (harness, pcm, etc)

everything from the LS1 will swap over to the 5.3. I assume this is a gen III 5.3 correct? If so then it all will swap over. Why are you down sizing anyways?

oh yea i think you may have to drill and tap a hole for the alternator bracket. Not 100% sure on that but i know on some you do. maybe someone else will chime in on that

everything should work on the 5.3 for your orginal motor your going to have to use your stock pan form the camaro if your going to use the 5.3 I wouldn't use the 317 becasue your going to loose alot of compression 5.3 with dish piston with a 61cc head have 9.5 compression the 317 has a 72 cc man I would use some 5.3 head worked and milled to pick up you compression all your brakets should work I know they will work your the only thing your going to have to change is your oil pan pick up tube man good luck ls6 cam is good

My guess is because he blew up the LS1 or something. Hes turboing so 5.3s are cheap and handle turbos real well. Mainly for the cheap factor im guessing.

Thanks for the responses guys. And yes, this is for a turbo setup.

I have to admit, I am a little surprised the 5.3L swap has gotten so many questions (not just this forum), maybe it is just because I spend so much time in the forced induction forum...maybe its not as common as I thought.

But the concensus seems to be the design of the pistons and the iron block lends itself to being much more turbo charger friendly. The 317's drop the compression down to around 8.6:1 and flow well. The intent is to run a higher amount of boost on pump gas safely.

The LS1 in my car runs great and my intent was to sell it to fund more parts before it gets blown up and worth nothing. Blow up a 5.3 and its a couple hundred bucks for another short block.

Hopefully that clears things up a bit.
