I have been hunting for a good deal on a ls1 car and to day i found a 02 red z28 ttop 35th ann. car has i fast 92mm intake, fast fuel rail with gauge, kooks headers, magnaflow catback, a real good sounding cam, but the stock a4 is starting to slip but they have a complet rebuild kit 3500 stall and shift kit all from tci. but when it was idleing it had almost no oil pressure and when he revd it alittle it still didnt even hit the 1/4 mark.
the dealership that it is at has a ton of papers on the car. they have papers from the build and parts and also when it was tuned they say they have a dyno sheet of it doing almost 450hp with the stock trans slipping.
there only wanting 7500 they way it sits with the trans parts or about 10 with the trans rebuilt. but im wondering about the oil pressure. is it common for the ls1 cars to have low oil pressure or problems with there gauges. im going back monday or tues to look at it with my otc scanner to see if it help any.
also they said the motor only has 1000 miles on it since it was pulled and builtup

When the engine was built the oil pump o ring could have gotten pinched or cut. They could have put the wrong o ring in it. It also could be the gauge. Which are all common on LS engines.
If it actually has that little of oil pressure you will be taking the engine apart soon.
I would ask them to put a mechanical gauge on it to verify how much pressure it has AND have them show you, don't just take their word for it.
With a car like that I imagine you are going to get a tail light warranty so be careful.

im hoping my scanner will get a oil pressure read. they said it has never been that low but its one of those shady buy here pay here places and they have had it for awhile now i just stoped by to kill some time today and when they told me they had over 6k in paper work on just the motor i thought they were bsing me till they poped the hood and fired it up. god it sounded so good made my lt1 car seem like a turd. they whole day all i could here was that nasty lobe. wish my daily drive z71 sounded like that

I agree on the mechanical oil pressure gauge. Any legit shop will do it to sell the car. $7500 seems to be pretty decent though for what it has. I guess it depends what you plan on doing with it to determine if the price is right.

it should read it because the oil pressure sensor sends a volt signal to the pcm then to the cluster on most cars. it workes on my 2000 z71. i have a $1500 scanner its the same company that makes the matco and snap on scanners. i bought it cuz the scanners we used at the dealership i work at really only do dodges.

Oil pressure sensor is not connected to PCM on F-car... it goes directly to IPC.
(on Y-car and various trucks it is connected to PCM and PCM sends a message to IPC)
