Are you talking about having them build it and install it?

I will get all the parts together, I would just need them to build the engine (short block) Hone and all that good stuff. From Elyria huh? Lived there for about 8 years

Depends on how long you want the motor to last. I could throw everything together for $20 if you need it done in one day...

Seriously though, it really depends on the shop. Different shops charge different rates. Shops also charge different rates based on the amount of labor required to prep those parts to install. It could be anywhere from $500 to $1000 depending on the shop and the prep work that needs to be done.

I'm in the same ballpark right now.. just getting my ls1 rebuilt due to blown hole in #8 piston from ptv.. new rings and bearings are there along with the old motor and donor motor just waiting on how much its going to cost to swap parts, clean, ball hone possibly, flycut, and balance/assemble it to a shortblock so I can get it installed.. damn waiting game

When I was going to build my 408, I priced everything out, rotating assembly, block, machine work, specialty tools, etc. I planned on assembling the engine myself.

I found my HKE 408 shortblock for $3,850 and at the time, this happened to be about $400 more than the cost of what I priced out for the parts and machine work. That's too good of a deal to pass up, considering you're not liable for the assembly of the shortblock if it blows, within warranty and practical limitations of course.

I've saved almost $600 already for my forged 347 build by buying NIB/lightly used parts from third party sellers here on LS1tech... I likely still have another few hundred in savings over MSRP after I buy the cam, flexplate, pushrods, main studs, etc... This is in parts alone. I suppose re-using a stock crank helps a lot with the pricing though.

408 and 347 are a little bit different, aside from the obvious...

price wise i usually charge 500 to assemble a motor if the individual buys the parts. I also provide info on all the clearances when doing such assembly. A shop may charge more or less depending on the amount of business and quality of such work.

$4200 for a stock rebuild? Doesn't sound stock to me. That, or you didn't mean $4200...
