Default TFS 220 (cleaned up) vs home port 799

I have a pair of 799 heads I am planning to mildly port/mill and put on since I got them for a good deal.

But I was just offered a pair of TFS220 heads lightly cleaned up by what I would call a professional since he does work for a Houston area shop. Said they flowed 330cfm @650 lift.

Obviously the TFS heads are going to be superior...but it is my understanding it would be strongly recommended I use aftermarket roller rockers on those heads...which would absolutely put them out of my price range.

My current cam won't be a good match for either set of heads really, so I was considering a swap to something different in the low 230s with newer lobes (likely EPS) which I also wouldn't be able to afford with the other heads.

So basically it would look something like:

better cam/799 (sell stock heads and current cam, more money in my pocket) vs. my cam/TFS heads (sell stock heads and 799)

I bet those TFS would pick up 20+ pretty easy.

I had a set of CNC'ed 5.3's and picked up 19/19 on back 2 back dyno runs when I switched to TFS 220'S on my old 346... I am sure they are worth more than that on my new setup.....

So you're saying 20+ over the 799 (same as 243 ls6 castings)?

Right now I have stock 99 ls1 heads...I would hope to get at least 20+ RWHP from the 799s milled/mild ported.

According to Brian Tooley of Total Engine Airflow you can swap out the bronze valve guides with powdered metal valve guides and run OEM rockers with the 220s. I don't know the cost, but it might provide another opiton to consider.

Obviously the parts you pair with the heads will affect results but yeah I can see those TFS heads making 20 over mild 799's and 40 over unported 853's very realistically....

Thunderstruck, i would just take the heads you have and send them to TEA or Livernois motorsports for some work. I also have my reverse split, and as much as i am considering aftermarket castings like AFR, it seems like the best results with a reverse split cam with an LS6 head. I also will throw on a ported fast 92 intake and see how far i can push this cam.

Poolfanatic, with some MTI 2E LS6 back in the day and a X1 made 445rwhp and it was tuned safely with spray.

Bshell with a TR230 and TFS 215 made 460+RWHP..
