i'll be leaving for afghanistan soon and due to a change in plans i will need my car worked on in my absence so i can have it in tip top shape when i return. it will need to be able to make the trip from texas to camp pendleton CA. which currently i don't trust it to do. it smokes, it ticks, the clutch chatters, it wont shift above 5500, the motor mounts are disgusting etc...

there is an oil consumption problem, most likely coming from the heads. this needs to be found and fixed. also a port, polish, and mill(roughly .025-.030). a leak down and compression test might be a good idea as well. the rings should be fine but i don't know for sure. i would think that checking the lifters and cam lobes for wear would be appropriate, i'll leave that to the discretion of the engine builder as well as the need for new lifters, rockers, and push rods.

so we are looking at around $2000 in parts, give or take. those prices were just pulled off of the internet as i found them. and i may not need some of what i listed, i just went ahead and threw in things i might need to prepare for the worst.

so i just need to know if i'm forgetting anything or if i pulled a n00b move with any of the parts i listed. and of course opinions and suggestions are welcome.

 

good luck and keep safe.I would maybe consider some YT rockers.save you old lifters and convert one to use for checking for proper push rod length.sell the others for the same reason.maybe consider a torquer or custom cam to go with the improved flowing heads.

 

depending on the communication i will have i am considering a custom EPS grind. or possibly the 234/246. which idk because that one seems a little fat on duration. we'll see, but eventually yes i will have a bigger cam, and i think i am pretty set on EPS. unless someone better comes along in the next 7 months.

btw any reason for YT over HS rockers?

 

I would definitely do new lifters and the new flywheel to go with the clutch.

 

yeah the stock flywheel has already been resurfaced once. and i'm sure the current clutch has done a number on it since then. it slips and chatters so bad...

 

Since clutches are obviously expensive items, I would always recommend a new flywheel, even on stock applications. I'm the type that replaces rotors when I do brake pads too

 

I have herd less problems about the YT rockers.the intake and exhaust rocker are mounted on the same shaft,I feel this make them more stable at high rpms and lifts.the can be found for a little $400.I like the EPS cam idea ,just ordered 1 my self.

 

i thought the HS were mounted the same way? i'll search around and see what i can find. who do you think would be the cheapest on them? TSP has them for like 480. where as the HS are 415. but when it comes down to it i don't really want to skimp on my valvetrain.


edit: are the YT6645 the ones i need? the bolt on non-adjustable 1.7?

 

I think you are right about the HS being shaft mounted,I can't tell by the pics.you can get the YT rockers(6645) at the WS6 store,and look at TSP also.

 

oh wow WS6 store has the YT for like $408 and the HS for $380.


and what about the scorpion performance rockers?
