Which oil pump should I use?
I am about to put the finishing touches on my 383 build. It has Callies crank and rods, H series clevite bearing. Rod bearing clearances are all about .0025 and main clearances are about the same. I ran a GM ported high volume pump on the stock motor before it went boom.
I have a double row Comp timing chain and I've read about some issues with the high volume Melling and front cover clearances.
Today I picked up a Melling standard volume, but I wanted a little input before I put it together.

As a bit of info for Melling pumps:
M295 = stock replacement pump - stock pressure/volume
10295 = better made pump - stock volume/high pressure
10296 = same pump body as 10295 - more volume/standard or high pressure springs included

i was under the impression that the 96 has a more beefy body, impeller, and slightly larger ports. hence why a double roller wont fit with out modification. and why the 96 also costs more.
could be wrong though.

I've got my 296 sitting on my desk. It is definitely more beefy than the stock LS6 pump. It's a very nice piece. I was planning on cutting the pump and the timing cover but that would be very nice if melling already made the mods clear the double roller.
