Default How to prep a cam for storage

I finally got my cam and i wont be installing it for two weeks and was wondering if there is anything i should do to prevent rust while it sits. It is still in the comp cam box and blue bag with the anti rust liquid on it. The cam that I got before this, the liquid in the bag solidified and stained the lobes of the cam. I would like to prevent this from occuring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I would put it in a place that that is dry and where the temp does not fluctuate a lot that could create moisture.

I soaked mine with some WD-40 and wrapped it up in heavy plastic.

is leaving it with the prelube enough? The bag that it came in also has holes in it. Should i put it in an additional bag or will the holes allow it to release any condensationb that may accumulate in the bag.

Didn't you just say that last time leaving it in the bag led to it staining in a manner that you didn't like? Just take it out, clean it w/ brake cleaner or mineral spirits, dry it off, coat it w/ some type of oil, wrap it in a clean plastic bag & put it in the house somewhere for 2 weeks.

It will be fine for two weeks. Just leave it alone and keep it in a warm location that is dry (in the house). If it is coated, leave the coating on there. If you remove it, then you will have problems.

If it's gonna be stored for some time,I would store it standing up. I have heard it could cause it to warp if stored on it's side for too long.

It should be fine to leave it in the bag. Most are coated already. Just don't let it get cold while it sits. If you are really concerned about it. Coat it and oil and repackage it. Should be fine from there.

Not necessarily. You should see the guy who spends 8+ hours a day working at Comp Cams straightening camshafts before they ship. Cams bend just like cranks do!

That being said, I wouldn't worry about it, and we store all of our shelf stock with them on their "sides" length-wise and we've never had any issues with it
