Default MTI T1 Cam

Someone is selling a used MTI T1 cam (221/221 558/558 112) for a great price. I'm looking for opinions on this cam.

Presently the set up is. 2002 camaro stripped A4, 2.73 gears, and completely with stock exhaust (manifolds and all).

I just bought a FTRA and TSP lid (but do not have them yet). I will also be getting a ported TB, ASP pulley, around a 3000 rpm converter, shift kit, trans cooler, and drag radials. I'm looking for a 3.23 rear end, also considering a 3.42. I have not yet decided on the exhaust and for now it will remain stock (maybe a cut out). I plan to keep the stock heads on for a while, I'm considering the AFR's but waiting for dyno results.

The car is a daily driver and it must be able to pass an emissions sniff test on the rollers.

How much of a difference in power do the 224's make? What type of springs are recommended? Can I re-use the stock pushrods?

Great all 'round cam.... period.
Great power, great tq., easy on the valvetrain, sounds GUUUUDDDDD.

My old T1 went 416/405 with all the obligatory bolt on's through a 12 bolt/4:11's, and slicks. Who says baby cams don't make power? It's ALL in the combo/tune.

How does that cam idle? I'm concerned with the tight lobe sep.

I have an 98 A4 with the T1 and a 3500 stall - 3.23 rearend - lid - muffler and headers and stock heads. It has great midrange power and torque. It has a good lope to as well. I recommend changing the springs at least. Plus you will definately need a tune. 224 will probably have better peak power.

Not sure if it passes emissions?

I had the cam in my old red SS at www.poorhams.com . I loved it .It was a very streetable cam with excellent manners yet strong power and performance. I got 408 hp on Thunders Dyno with 373 gears using Mac mids and cats. If you want a great all around cam you cant go wrong. The sound quality is there yet it wont scare people away...the mildness actually seemed to lure some of them in . I would give it a shot .

Get the X1 from MTI....sounds lopey.....but mash the gas and off you go.....get good valve springs though....MTI sells a package deal...set me in the 10's EASILY w/that cam, and it doesn't sound like a monster cam....very stealthy....and Jayson can tune the shizznit out of that cam. Even w/my A4 I went 112 LS and never had a problem...

Cam specs are 230/227/ .591/.571 112 or 114 go w/the 112....cam sounds like you have a baby cam in the car. With worked over MTI heads, 4000 3disc vig, and around 3400lbs the car went 10's all day long. and that's w/out the N20

thanks for the replies. Of course I waited a bit too long and the cam may be sold. If it doesn't sell I'll buy it.

JoSeY... I don't think the X1 from MTI will pass emissions for me. Sounds like you have a killer set up.
