Default Solid -vs- hydraulic cam Qs....

Say a 346 shortblock with a 240/236 .592/.592 111lsa solid roller cam produces 460rwhp and 418.2 rwtq. (Jason 99TA). Now, if you had a 240/236 .592/.592 111lsa hydraulic camshaft, would you produce the same power?

What exactly are the benefits of a solid versus a hydraulic cam, if cam specs are the same? I know that a solid roller cam will idle smoother than a similar hydraulic cam, but what other benefits are there? Thanks, Shawn

faster ramp's. Stays open at higher lift longer than a hyd cam.

may have the same lift and duration but the solid roller will have more are under the curve so to speak.
As far as hp difference? I would have to dyno both set ups to tell. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
But years ago I ran a solid roller in a 406 street car. I got tired of changing lifters (about every 5000 miles) so I ended up going to solid mech grind. I lost about 3 tenths and 3 mph.with very similar advertized ratings. I am curious if the solid rollers will last on the street. The increase in spring pressure is harder on the solid roller lifters compared to the hyd cams.
I would send an email to FMS as they have done many from what I have read.

Another benefit of a solid cam is much better throttle responce, and also high rpm capability
