What would cause this combustion pattern?
Yeah I would have gone with a forged stroker back in October, but I didn't have the money and I still don't now.

Yeah.
It was a rod bearing failure initially. Lothar had to buy a new crank and I'm pretty sure it either came with (or he bought separately) a set of rods and pistons. I'm pretty sure he just needed one new rod, though.
The machine shop says that the bearing spun due to some sort of oiling issue, but I don't believe that. The only oiling issue I see is where his PCV tube was broken when it contacted the not-clearanced-enough boss in the valley. Though, neither of us think this was the real problem.
