In contrast, according to Katech's instructions for their rod bolts, you can do a substitution for the OEM bolts without resizing the rods.
(I personally would not use any fastener for which the rod had not been sized, but that is just me.)

You can use ARPs with standard rods, but (according to ARP's instructions) you must size the rod for the ARP fastener. That means you cannot simply pull the oil pan and substitute ARP bolts in the place of OEM bolts and expect it to be reliable.
In contrast, according to Katech's instructions for their rod bolts, you can do a substitution for the OEM bolts without resizing the rods.
(I personally would not use any fastener for which the rod had not been sized, but that is just me.)

When you say resizing what is involved? Are you resizing the rod bolt holes?

No, it is not the rod bolt holes that are resized, it is the opening in the rod that clamps on to the crankshaft. The size and concentricity (roundness) of that opening differs with the type of bolt (OEM, ARP, Katech) used because each of those fasteners have different stretch characteriistics. A machine shop can set the rods up to have the correct size and concentricity with the specific bolt to be used.

at the end of the day ARP says dont do it its not good (I.E. we wont cover it when you break a bolt or spinna bearing). Katech says its ok but maybe not the best thing. If youre worried about it leave the stock ones in it especially if youre not planning on getting over around 450 HP. If you want it bullet proof, take it out. size everything correctly and take your pick of rod bolt.

From what I read in another thread its about $80 and from what the thread says its not worth risking it and not doing the rods without resizing the rods
The katech apparently dont need to be resized, but I think its just good insurance
