Default heads heads heads!

Hello! i have an 02 z28 and ive been looking for heads. its been dofficult to find a good set of ls6 heads, but i did find some 6.0 heads off an lq4 for $100. I'm planning on boosting the engine eventually but until i have the money, i'm thinking of just running heads and a t rex cam. would that be a good combo or would the 6.0 heads be too big and loose power?

Edit: Sorry, I just realized that it put this in the wrong section >.<

Short answer: No, it wouldnt be an ideal combo. It would make power though.

If you plan on running boost I would go ahead and get the cam for that and have the heads worked or whatever you are planning. Don't get a trex just because it will "fit". You probably won't lose enough power to notice. The stock heads are 66.67cc and the 6.0 heads are 71.0cc.

thank you! =) what would be a good cam to run N/A for a while with those heads then? Or would i be better off running stock heads with trex, i've got an itch for some quick power lol

Lol, a cam that large in combination with such large chambers would be an absolute slug at anything <4.5k. The DCR would be far from ideal, but like orangeapeel said, it would seem more productive to cam for boost (or just wait to buy collectively).

If you're set on running N/A for a while, remember you'll have to pay for multiple dyno tunes eventually (been there...it's a pain in the ***/wallet). But I'd prob opt to run a big cam with stock heads vs. stock 6.0L heads. At least this way you'd keep some compression in the equation.

Find a set of 243's or 799's to put on there.

TRex was designed for all out. You can run a boost friendly cam on an N/A setup and it will still deliver.

If those are stock 5.3 heads.....you'd be better off with the 317 6.0 heads. They flow less and have smaller valves than the 6.0 heads, and the increase in compression won't make up for that loss. Stock 5.3 heads ARE NOT the same as "5.3" heads you see people talking about....they are talking about ported sets from sponsors with larger valves.
