Default How do you order EPS cam from Summit?

I'm wanting to order a custom EPS cam that Pat G has recommended from Summit. Summit says I need a comp cam grind number. How do I get this?

Specs for cam is:
13117R/13118R HR 110LSA +4 advance

Is that the grind number?

Why don't you just call up Geoff at EPS and order it from him since he makes them?

If you order it from Summit, EPS would have nothing to do with it. Comp won't have a grind number for a custom cam. Maybe you could contact comp and give them the specs and see if they can sell it through summit? I don't know...

EPS lobes are proprietary and can only be acquired through Engine Power Systems.

Not exactly true. I had my (turbo Buick) cam spec'ed by Billy Godboldt @ Comp Cams, he made a record of it in their system, gave me the exact grind number, I called Summit and ordered as directed and had my cam drop-shipped from Comp 5 days later. Paid through Summit at their price. Not sure if EPS would do this, but Comp obviously did...

Thats because only Comp had anything to do with that cam. EPS lobes are for Geoff's proprietary use only. Comp cannot use Geoff's lobes without permission from him. To take his lobes and grind cams and sell them in summit would be stealing

Alright, you missed my point. Let's try this again, substituting "EPS" for "Comp":

Not exactly true. I had my (turbo Buick) cam spec'ed by Geoff at EPS, he made a record of it in their system, gave me the exact grind number, I called Summit and ordered as directed and had my cam drop-shipped from EPS 5 days later.

Does this clear up what I was trying to say?

I'm pretty sure the only way to obtain a EPS cam is by going to one of those claw toy machines at the grocery store, putting in the cam specs of your desire, then throw in a dollar bill and guide the claw with the joystick which then picks up and distributes the camshaft through the hatch door on the bottom of the machine.

My point was this guy had a cam custom spec'd from Patrick, so comp won't have any record of it and obviously no grind number. It doesn't matter though because as already stated he can't order it through Summit.

just go get a reground factory cam on ebay... where better to save a few bucks then a cam for your engine. its not like eps's price is outta line with anyone else... im sure there are other parts you will need that you can put on your summit card.

02WS6TURK if you are associated with EPS then I need to rethink my cam selection. Can someone clarify that for me? If this is the type of business associated with EPS then I want no dealings with them.

Got-a-ls1, I was hoping to push over the $1000 limit so I would have 12 months same as cash. You are correct that his price was not out of line with anything. Just wanted to save some money.

Thank you Pat G for an excellent mature response to my question which was given by other means.

I was thinking because there is a Master Lobe catalog available from Comp, I assumed it was a "master" catalog. The EPS cam recommendation had the Comp core that it would use and that comp core was available through Summit. I wasn't trying to cheat anyone out of any money, making the assumption that EPS would receive payment based upon their grind numbers being used. Curse me for making this assumption.

You can order any reg comp lobes on a custom like that through Summit but not a proprietary lobe that is not owned by Comp. Geoff had to pay Comp for his lobes and only he can have them ground although maybe he would ok you to do that through Comp with Summit and you coul pay him the difference so he still covers his end of the expenses he paid to have those lobe designed and created for his company.

What do you guys mean when your saying proprietary lobes?

I think you are just refering to the ownwership of custom grinds?
