So i have a 1999 ta with prc 5.3l heads. aftermarket heads don't affect the size dipstick you have. i ordered one from summit but it is a lot longer than the one that was in the car when i bought it. but you cant even check the level because it's so hard to put it in and pull it out. you gotta two hand it. like its pinched. so i bought another one from summit that had the 3 wholes vs the groced one that came with the car. The one from summit with the wholes is a inch or two longer. so of course it will read full of oil. I want to know what your serial numbers are on the dipstick you have if the heads do not matter for dip stick size. so i can know which one is the correct stick. Thanks!!

 

Why don't u just cut the new dipstick down to the length of the stock sized stick?

 

get a stock one from the forsale section.. or is there a reason you are using an aftermarker dipstick?

 

See, that's my issue. I don't know what the stock stick is. Because I ordered one for the ls1 and when it got here, it was longer than the one I had. So is the one I just bought the stock stick or aftermarket replica that isn't really a replica lol?? That's why I wanted to know the model number/serial number. So I can see which is the one I need. I don't know why you would need an aftermarket dip stick unless you upgrade oil pans right?

I know mine's correct stock because I bought the car new.

 

You buy the dipstick for whatever oil pan you're using. So if you're using a f-body one then buy an f-body dipstick. or here's a super dooper idea like we've been doing for 30 years. Fill the thing with however many quarts of oil it requires for the oil pan you're using and MARK the dipstick level at full with a hand file. If you want to get really fancy mark it once for one quart too low and mark it again for "full".
