I was running a 220/220 on a 112 with long tubes with SLP 3" cats and was tagged as a gross polluter. At present I am putting a 2004 LS6 cam, JBA shorties and fabricating a custom 3" exhaust system. I am using CA legal Magnaflow cats (2.5"). We'll see how it goes. The HS 1.8 rockers provide approx. .580 - .590 lift and I'm hoping passing SMOG becomes routine. I mostly AutoX the car, so I don't need HP, I need torque. I'll let you know how it turns out. Good luck to us both.
If you need torque that 220/220 on 112 will be a better cam for you then the ls6 will. The ls6 cam only starts to show gains after 5000 where the stock ls1 camshaft starts to fall off.

True..but he wants to use shorty headers for smog, and a single pattern cam like the 220/220 would be a poor choice. You need a cam thats exhaust biased for a shorty/stock manifold setup. The cheaTR cam or the EPS one thats designed for a restrictive exhuast would be the way to go IMO.

If I don't sell my car, this is the cam I will probably be using. This would be great for stock manifolds/shorties, and sounds like its easier on the valvetrain than the cheaTR v.3.

That looks pretty interesting.

EPS reccommends dual springs.

You could also go with something like the PAC 1518s, unless you have good springs allready.

did u just put on the stock exhaust parts with your 224 cam and drive into the smog station and it passed? or did u need to have it tuned with your stock exhaust parts to have it pass?

well spring choice is up to the user and what hardware he will be using in combination but word is the EPS cams have a much smoother ramp rate. Which is easier on the valvetrain and reduces spring wear.

True on the hardware choice.

With this EPS Cam I wonder if the profile is comparible to Comp's XFI or XE lobes.

Some cams even use dual profiles which will require different length intake and exhaust pushrods.

i literally just drove home from the smog shop and my TR224 114LSA passed with EASE with stock manifolds, cats, etc.! I also have a 3800 stall and ported and polished LS6 59CC heads. My buddy passed smog with a bullet cam 222/226 .595"/.585" although I forget the LSA. Here are my results for those who are interested-

15mph- c02 13.9%/ O2 0.7%/ HC 14PPM/ CO .17%/ NO 162PPM
25mph- c02 14.0%/ O2 0.6%/ HC 10PPM/ CO .18%/ NO 147PPM

now of course this was with a good driveability tune, but as you can see if was no where close to failing!

You passed with flying colors. Very encouraging.

it was tuned by Mark Romans and it hasn't seen any dyno time yet. I have to do a couple things then it will be going on the dyno. I will post results when I find out.

Off the shelf a 228R.

Your best bet, is to get one custom spec'd.

I'll be at Sac Raceway tomorrow even though it's suppose to be like 103 degrees lol. I don't care though I need to see what she can do now!

It was 100+ degrees out there and horrible track conditions. Spinning the tires bad and ran a best of 12.4@107 1.89 60 foot. Not too bad for a smog legal car!
