At least you know what it is now and it shouldn't be that hard to fix.

The link you posted is for the entire assembly which I doubt you need. You can get just the fuel pump for around $100 aftermarket.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I dunno 'OP. $400 is a lot for that damn thing but look at it this way: whether you cut the hole or not you don't want to have to get back in there again if the sending unit ends up dying later down the road. You're in there, might as well change the whole thing out. When I replaced my assembly, I didn't want to deal with having to break open the assembly just to get the new pump in. Just something to think about...

Now would be a good time to upgrade to a racetronix with hotwire. That things is plug and play. Totally worth it.

i moved the car into the driveway this weekend with the help of a few guys, removed the carpet and was planning on cutting into it next weekend.. but now wifes dad wants to pay to have it repaired.. i dont mind, but i dont believe in spending money to have someone do it when i can do it and save.

Now by chance, could the rough idle i reported in this post have been a sign of the issues im having now with the fuel pump?

It's hard to say, that thread was basically:

1.) you asking questions
2.) you taking it to a shop where they found nothing wrong
3.) you saying you somehow knew it had a bad cat
4.) you asking more questions

if i replace the entire assembly, is it worth spendin the extra money on the racetronix to use that instead of the unit that comes with the assembly?

Before spending $100 ot $400 for the parts, im going to replace the fuel filter first, if it was clogged it should give me my pressure back or atleast more pressure. I rather spend the $10 for the filter and 15minutes to replace before tearing into the trunk to repalce the fuel pump or assembly.

I highly recommend using an OEM pump, the aftermarkets only seem to make it a year or so and your changing them again. Also, they are usually noisy. You should be able to buy just the pump in A/C delco (OEM GM) but you will have to ask for it.

I'll have to tell my 8 year-old Walbro GSS340 pump that, it clearly hasn't gotten the memo.

I won't argue the extra noise, though.

It's possible the recent intrusion of Chi-com knockoff pumps accounts for your perception. They look very much like the real thing, but they live a short and painful life when put into service.

Great move, and a new filter is a good investment of money & effort even if it's not the cause of your problem.

I'd recommend a GM filter. Purolator used to be good, but I noticed the recent Chinese-made one had crappy case welds and returned it.

Recommendations on where to get the GM filter and fuel pump(OEM GM) when i called the dealer the other day, they said they only had the assembly $600+ so if anyone knows where i can get just the OEM fuel pump that would be great. Looking at the autoparts, they carry WIX, Fram, ACDelco and MotorCraft for the fuel filter..they are all just few dollars apart.. i would assume the ac delco would be the better of the selection.
thanks for the replies and suggestions..

Advance auto has delphi pumps which are OEM. Alot of times their cheaper than aftermarket ones, if not go with Bosch, they are one of very few pumps with a lifetime replacement. I have a bosch and am happy with it, stay away from airtex tho their bad news.

well replaced the fuel filter and seemed to help, car stayed running for about 5 minutes as before was only running for about 5 to 10 seconds.. but checking the pressure, still had the same amount as before i started..

So i cut into the trunk, BUT not sure if it was known, maybe it was, but using some of the links provided on how to cut in, seems that even though the measurements were right on, the position on a 99TA was slightly different.. i now have a extended opening and full access to the fuel pump assembly..

Is there a method to removing the assembly?
