gear change + exhaust setup
I was wanting to know if I had to change the gears in my car or would it be alright to keep the stock gears?
Running off the headers would a x pipe into a 5" turn down be better or running pipe off the headers to 3" turn down pipes be better?
I have a 1999 Z28 that has 96000 miles. Im putting a ms4 cam in and new springs, locks, retainers, pushrods, pro 5.0 shifter, spec stage2 clutch, hooker headers 1 7/8 3", ported ls6 oil pump, and ls2 timing chain. I already have ls6 manifold and ported throttle body.

Yes, but how often do you go high enough to make that matter? The raised redline will allow for extra rpm in each gear as well. If a race isn't over by 130/140, that's good enough. Hell, most of the time it's more than over by 110.
You don't want keep top speed but sacrifice your powerband. With 3.42s, you might fall just a tad bit out of the strong pull of that cam. I'd rather have that then the ability to go 160, which is never used 99.9% of the time.
