Default Anyone ever run this Lunati cam?

LUNATI-55005 Camshaft, Hyd.Roller, Chevy/GM LS1, .534/.544 in., 222/230 @0.050, 114LS - says that this is a good pro street cam with chopy idle

I am thinking of buying this cam @ $350 from Summit. It sounds like it would be a good strong steet cam in my '98 A4 Z-28 I want something that sounds good, but wont give me any problems!

I am also considering this cam from Speed, Inc: CC-custom3 Excellent power throughout RPM. With bolt-ons, Stage 2 heads and proper tuning, 420 RWHP in M6 cars is obtainable Lift: .563/.563 Dur@.050: 224/224 LSA:114

What do you guys think?

I would buy a converter first. I would get the TR224 over the lunati grind UNLESS your are going to spray

I am buying a converter, but I want to be able to run air, etc without having
surging and idle problems!

The specs on that custom Comp Cams cam from Speed Inc are basically the TR224 specs. The TR224 is a very popular cam, and will yield many search results.

Thanks for your input!

I am going to order the Lunati 55006 with the same specs as tr224. It is a better price through Summit. I can save about $50. When you are on a budget every dollar counts.

Now I need the springs and push rods.

i've heard bad things about lanuti cams. a guy i know had the mti b1 cam,at that time mti used lanuti cams. the cam would not idle good, stalled at stop lights and did'nt seem to make good power.now mti uses comp cams,i have the c1 cam and from day one i had no problems even with no tuning. mti, speed inc, thunder racing and lg all sell great cams ,usually from comp.

I had that cam in my car over 4 years ago before tuning was available. It idled decent @ 800RPM, dynoed 365 RWHP 366 RWTQ and ran a best of 12.20 @ 115 MPH 1.82 60' with a 3700lb raceweight 3:73 gears and BFG DR's.

I would like to see what that cam would do with a good tune.

I believe that is a little more cam than I want! I think I would rather go with the 55006 @ 224/224/560/560 112

I was talking about the 55005 and stock heads. I also had the 55006 and ported heads as well. Both cams were great and had excellent drivability.

Thanks, The 55006 sounds like what I am looking for. What was your car auto or manual?

I talked to a tech at Lunati and he said that all I should need with that cam is a 2500 stall converter. Does that sound about right to you? I doubt if I race the car much right now since it is my daily driver, but I will run it some!

I'm running the 55006 in my car, and a friend is running it in his A4 as well. With a little tuning it runs great and idles fine.

I had the 222/230 and it was a good cam in its day. Idled fine with tuning. I now have a 242/242 lunati in a 422 that makes really good power. I would go with the tr224 on a 114 for emissions and drivabiltity. You'll make a lot power with that cam.
