Default 440 CI smoking???

Hey all,
I just picked up a 02 zo6 with a 440ci ls2 long sleeve with ls7 heads. The engine has about 8k miles on it (I have receipts showing the miles). I noticed when I down shift a bunch of blue smoke comes out of the exhaust. I ran a compression test on it and i have 250-276psi. Do you think I could have bad rings? or could it be the funky PVC system they had hooked up? what should I check before I tear this engine down? The engine runs strong and the dyno sheets show 570rwhp but it smoke under vacuum conditions
Thanks

What type of oil are you running? I had the same issue with my Camaro when I was running a 10W-30 synthetic blend oil. I went to a 15W-30 natural oil and didn't have any other issues. This is somewhat normal for a built motor depending on what type of oil you are using. If the car runs strong and has good cylinder pressure I would bet that this is the issue.

Could be several things, but I am leaning towards valve stem seals. If it were oil rings, the blow by would tend to happen under acceleration not decel. You are creating a lot of vacuum when you let the motor slow the car down. I would definitely run a catch can and or if there is already one, verify the connections to the PCV system... You can always check for oil in the intake, if it is really wet, could be the latter is the primary culprit. I would start there since it is the easiest to check.

I'd do compression and leakdown tests first thing! That's a great place to start and gives you a better idea where you should be looking.

Blue Smoke = oil burning

White Smoke = antifreeze/coolant burning in combustion chamber

Black Smoke = is usually an indicator of too much fuel/rich

I personally woooodn't worry about it unless its using a noticeable amount of on the dip stick. A little oil won't hurt anything and actually it helps lube things in the upper cylinders under hard conditions.
