Default few pics of head swap

Well, with Sly's help, we tore the stock heads off. Now the final cleaning and the wait for my new Absolute Speed 5.3 stg. 2 heads are on. So far everything has gone well.

Thanks again to Sly for his help.

Good job, I'm about to swap heads myself. Have you got any pointers or problems that popped up during the removal?

With Sly's help, everything went pretty smooth. Kinda hard to get to those bolts on the back of the head, but patience wins there. Coolant everywere, but I guess there isn't much you can do there.

Is it free, or stuck to the heads? Mine came right off, we just had to leave the back bolts in and hold them up to remove it. Also there as a couple of sensors and that damn brake hose. But we slid it forward to remove those.

May be Sly cam chime in here later and help.

I had this problem on my brothers '68 Ford galaxy. We put a cherry picker on the car, and then used an air chisel to get the manifold off, eventually it came off. Try working on a corner!

These intakes aren't like the old days where you put a bead or RTV on the front and back if that's what NovaTime is talking about. These intakes come out very easily, you can have them off in 15 mins or less if you have the proper tools.

Sure you can.....drain the coolant from the block first before pulling the heads. Makes it a lot less messy. You can pull the block drain plug above the starter, or, do like I did and push a small hose down the water pump hole in the front of the block and siphon the coolant out from there. No coolant in the bores, bolt holes, etc.

I told him about the drain plugs but didn't want to bother with it. He did the vacuum to the water pump but it still didn't get enough of it out.
