good combo to beat an lt1 383???

Default good combo to beat an lt1 383???

ok so heres the story i have a 2000 z28 m6 with a lid headers and flowmaster y pipe. my friend has a 94 z28 and he is getting a 383 stroker kit. since then he has been giving me so much crap about how he is going to whoop me so i came to you guys for advice... ive been told that an ls1 with a good h/c/i can take out a 383 is that true... thanks in advance. and sorry i already tried the search button but it only gives me results about lt1 383's.

A set of good heads and cam would probably suffice..

Depending on what heads and cam your friend is going to be going with, a good cam only setup may even work. Really depends on if your friend is going to cheap out on his heads or not I guess.

Secretly ask what heads and cam he's going with... IMO, easily some quality ported LS6 heads and a big custom cam for it, along with all your boltons and you'd be set.

You really have nothing to worry about. Heads/cam/intake/exhaust/tune should take him out no problem unless he is going to get really extreme. I doubt that because by now most people who own an LT1 that are digging for serious power and can afford it step up to an LS1 or better. Those who can't afford the LS1 usually scrape the money up to do a budget build LT, which are rather hard to deal with anyways.

Really, a good set of heads and a cam should produce more than enough but it depends on what you want to spend too.

I have an el-torro cam, stock 243's and the car is not even tuned yet and I stomped all over my buddies 97 ws6 with a 383 stroker. I was on bald *** nitto's and we raced on the street. He had brand new nitto's and 1 car length, I smoked the tires thru 3rd and once I got traction I pulled right away.

All depends on his 383... Guy around me has a LT1 TA and he pulled on me and I am putting down the low 400rwhp. But 9 outta 10 times I would say a HC LS1 takes a 383LT.

I agree. If all he is doing is putting in stroker kit than you should be able to beat him. However if he is upgrading the cam, ported intake and heads then that is a different story. Some of those moded LT1's are pretty fast.

Heads and Cam 383 = Cam only LS1

If your buddy does his research it won't cost that much to have a strong runner. My 383 runs 10's on motor but the part selection is critical. If you look in the LT1 section more and more LT's are running 10's now days it just takes a good set of heads to make the right power.

Also FWIW my car put down 477RWHP through a stalled auto.

thanks for all the ideas guys... i like the ls6 heads and big cam ill look into that... i talked to him today and he said that he was just getting the stroker kit and voodo cam dont know the specs on the cam though.

whats your budget?you will need a better cat-back or a cut out.get some low miles 243 heads or consider some TSP ls6 st1 heads and a EPS cam.a fast 78 or 90/92 intake and matching TB.get bigger injectors and good suspension parts.order the cam last after you get all of the parts you need.

Normal H/C setup. TSP 2.5 5.3L Heads, and a MS3 or 233/239..

Im also gunna guess that neither of you has a lot of seat time, comparitively. (Not bein a dick, just stating facts.)

Sooo, Im gunna guess that a 383 LT1 car may not live a long life in such conditions. Either get wrecked or blown up. At this point you can rub in the fact you have a runnin car, which beats the hell outa havin a 383 anything that doesnt move.

it all depends on how much he is willing to spend, the combo of parts(how well they work together), and the quality of parts. He might wipe the floor with your h/c ls1 if he knows what he is doing and has the money to invest on good parts or if you dont setup your car well.
