I was told to choose the head gasket to match bore of cylinder head but I always thought it would be the bore of the block?

The larger of the two, i.e., some cylinder head chambers are wider then the bore. My Darts were like that as are my current AFR heads.

hmmm if im going 30 over on a lq9 and im using some 317 casting now he is telling me to use mls gasket for the size of the head chamber bore

Just think about it.... Say your bore has a bigger diameter than the chamber and you match the the HG to the chamber.... then the HG will portrude into the bore.....vice versa is also true so ALWAYS match to the bigger of the two if they are different.....

The GM MLS gasket off the 6.0L engines would work, or you can go Cometic 4.03x" bore!
