Default Ridiculous balancer bolt......help please

Hey all. I'm currently installing a new GM balancer bolt on my LM7. Torqued it to 37 lbs then attempted the 140 degree TTY. My 550 lbs ft impact gun got it to about 45 degrees and it WILL NOT go anymore. I tried a big breaker bar but I have no way to stop the motor from turning. If a 550 lbs ft gun can't do it I don't know how I'm ever going to get it even close to 140 degrees. Is it that bad if it stays how it is? And are you suppposed to lube the bolt before installing it or something? (never read anywhere saying to do that).

Excuse me....my bad, I have the bolt at around 120 degrees currently but it WILL NOT budge anymore. Is it that important to get the full 140??

you will be fine. If you cant get the full 140* (most people cant) anything over 100 will work. Did you take the starter off and put a large screwdriver or pry bar in the flexplate to stop the turning of the motor ?

No, I actually don't have the flywheel installed yet. The motor is on an engine stand at the moment but getting ready to go into the car. I put a little blue locktite on the balancer bolt as well so I doubt it's going anywhere...I'm sure it'd be much more important on a supercharged set up but I'm going turbo so no strain on the pulley.

Maybe once the motors in and I can lock it in gear with the tranny I'll try to crank it a tad more. I appreciate the reply though!

There is a Kent Moore flywheel holding tool thats worth its weight in gold for you right about now. Some say it pricey....I say you can't put a price on doing the job right.

How much is pricey? The problem with tools like that is that most people will use them once and then they'll turn into a paperweight. I am ALL for doing the job correctly and I'm a perfectionist on my work, but when a 550 lbs ft impact gun can't tighten a bolt.......I don't know what else to do. I'm working out of my home garage and while my tool collection is pretty good, I'm no engine shop.

Oh, well thats not bad at all! I was thinking it was going to be over a hundred. I def could have used one but the bolt is in now and my plans are to drop the drivetrain in this weekend. If I go crazy down the road and decide to build up a forged set up or something I will be purchasing that tool.

BTW, where'd you get it from?

agreed, i also have a similar tool for pulley's on ford lightenings, doing it right makes you feel better about the job as well, would you happen to have the part number for that tool?

You don't have a torque wrench?

I'm just an average guy and I was able to TQ my balancer bolt to 240 ft-lbs with a 1/2 drive TQ wrench.

Maybe its just my prior life, but if we didn't do things by the book things could tend to fall out of the sky.
