what i did just now...was hook up the battery....put the breaker bar on it....and not completely turn over....but just crank it for a split second.....not enough to start it....but just enough to get the starter to turn over while my strong buddy held the bar and the starter basically did it for me.....took me 30 seconds to get it off and when we did my cam we used red loctite. another reason it may have been so easy is because the cam swap was jan of 2011. so its only been 10 months since it was last off. im installing the ATI damper and 8 rib for my d1sc

Good way to break your buddy's hands/fingers or snap the starter ear off the block

There are lots of ways to do it, but here is a pic of how I did it. My engine stand has 4-legs, and I was standing on one of them while pulling straight up on the breaker bar. This way the stand did not tip over. This would probably not work on a standard 3-leg stand.

The wood block idea works great also. If you can remove the windage tray first, I recommend this method.

I had mine all set up to use the breaker bar/starter method, when reason prevailed. In the wink of an eye, you can break your wrist, or have an errant wrench knock you unconscious.
I know it works for some, but it breaks the rules of car safety imo.

when i did mine recently, i had it on a stand and shoved a pry bar in the flexplate and got a big socket with a long metal pipe and just broke it free.
