Hey guys I bought a 98 z28 yesterday long story short I bought it for 500 bc it wouldnt start...it was parked for well over a year (it was my uncles neighbor)...
Had it towed home and cranked it up with my trans am battery...this is the noise I hear lol...
Now I drained the oil the thing had about 8-9qts of oil! Not good but not shiny but the drain bolt tip did have a bit of metal shavings..
Any opinions?
Thanks

You have a Rod(s) knocking. Bad rod bearing....but you still got a great deal for the $$.
But to be on the safe side i would check the other possibilities that mimich the sound of a rod knocking. Valvetrain loose (rocker arm), bent pushrod, etc. also check exhaust manifold gaskets for leaks and loose torque converter bolts.
But it sure sounds like a rod hammering like a SOB to me. Hear the rat tat tat as you rev up a little and then let it coast back down. Typical noise of a rod knocking.
I wouldnt start it up anymore to minimize any further engine damage and start pulling the engine (after check the other possibilities out).
Pull the oil pan and id bet you will find metal pieces in there. While pan is off, reach and grab the rods and try to wiggle them back and forth (driver to passenger side of engine). The ones(s) that really wiggle are the culprits. Complete engine rebuilt will be in order. There will be metal pieces all over that engine (internally).

Ouch, good deal, but that sounds rough. Maybe those 8qts of oil kept the noise down while he ran it into the ground. Was it like peanut butter when you drained it straight 90w lol. $500 is still a good deal. You can get a used LQ9/LQ4 for cheap and drop it in!

Damn you know thats one easy thing I didn't check...ugh I'll get to those tom.
Other details on the car it's original owner all the way from 98, everything inside works..already had an offer of 200 for the body kit that these cars came worth so total price of the car could be less than 500 lol
This is it^^

I agree with it sounding like a rod knock, but did anyone else notice what looked like exhaust smoke coming up from the drivers side manifold around the 31 second mark in the video? Might be somethin to check out as someone earlier mentioned it could be a severe exhaust leak causing the noise. My guess is still a rod, though...
Dang! 500 bucks is a steal, and it looks like the paint isn't too bad either. Nice find!

I'm willing to bet you have a spun main bearing, He got that bitch hot and spun a bearing Im sure. Hows the oil pressure? Either way, you could easily part it out and triple your money. OR 6.0 time baby...
Edit:
Put some 80/90 in it and sell that bitch.. lol

Buddy of mine had the A/C comp, clutch go bad and it sounded like a badass rod knock. Quick easy check to pull the belts. Start it up for a couple seconds and that will eliminate all the the accessorys.

the paint is pretty shitty on the sail panel and on the rear bumper...no worries though if i get this thing running for cheap it will be my 2nd f-body and more than likely the one i beat on weekends...
going to start looking at my options on this pretty soon since i work at a school we get 2 months off during the summer which i could use to work on this as a project as im still getting paid my regular pay without driving to work...
i hope its something simple in the heads and all i have to do is order some 5.3 heads from texas speed and go with a pretty nice came and call it a $2000 13 sec car lol

My car sounded just like that. Before taking the plunge, I checked everything I could. Clutch / flexplate, exhaust manifolds, spark plugs, harmonic balancer, then pulled the heads and checked the lifters.
Then I had no choice but to pull the motor and it was what I expected it was. Spun main bearing.
