Default ARE 436 and stuff, 30-day UPDATE ..............

I've had my car back for a month now and I'm pretty much used to it and all of it's own unique little quarks.
Some may remember that it dynoed 480 RWHP, untuned, right before hitting 5,000 rpm when the factory fuel pump lost 3 psi, then at 485 RWHP and at 5,000 rpm it lost 10 psi more and the run was aborted. I haven't put a new fuel pump in yet, too busy right now. It'll get done in about 3 weeks then I'll be able to get a full pull.
Anyhoo, it's a friggin monster. I've been keeping it below 5,000 rpm so it doesn't run lean and fugg something up. It's plenty of power for now while I get used to this THING.
Also, some may remember I was all worried about the idle being a little too much. Well, this car idles LIKE STOCK. As far as shaking and vibration, there is NONE, it's like my stock car again. The exhaust is the only give away really, and the "ARE436" sticker under my WS6 emblem.
Starts in the morning on the first bump every time and stays on. It needs about 45 seconds to a minute for warm-up, then I can back out and drive away. By the time I reach the stop sign about 600 ft. down the street it's already settled into it's smooth idle.
I love the FLP IV tranny, it's exactly like stock. Smooth shifts when driving casual, yet hits like a sledge-hammer when I get into it.
My rear-end is 100% silent.
The car handles like it's magnetized to the pavement, I didn't think a car could be made to handle that well.
I pop the hood and the motor looks factory, except for the lid and the mirror-like Grot LT's. I like that ALLOT!
The acceleration from say 40-50 to around 130 is amazing. Can't wait till it gets the new pump and tuned so I can pass 5,000 rpm.

Just a little update. Norris Motorsports did one hell of a perfect job with everything, I couldn't be happier.
I plan to run the 1/4 for the first time on March 29th at SLP Day in Orlando. A friend is letting me use his slicks. He has a 1993 T/A that runs 9.50.

I'm just hoping for 10's. 10.9999999 will do. Allot of people think I may get mid to high 10's, that would be JimDandy!
I'm very anxious to see my total RWHP & RWTQ.

Stop saying stuff like this - it makes me want to go spend money <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Sounds like a stout setup. As soon as you get that fuel system worked out - lookout <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

Hi Lyle,
That's great!
I bet you can't stop driving it, it's so much fun. I already have 9000 miles on mine in 5 months. Good luck at your track outing!

I think it's pretty funny, I seem to remember you being the guy who was constantly talking about preserving idle quality and stuff, so you were building a big engine with a small cam. Didn't you end up with like a 240/240? Guess the bigger cams CAN idle good, huh? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I take the long way whenever I go somewhere.
I like this monster. Perfect in traffic. My temp has yet to touch the 185 degree line with or without the A/C, in or out of traffic. This is my new cluster so I know the gauge is correct.
I have 1,200 miles now. Getting used to the converter wasn't much at all, it's pretty tight. I'm hoping when I get the fuel pump and tuning done that the converter doesn't slip like it did last time. If it does it's most likely the tranny, but FLP (Chuck) said to let him know and he'll send another if need be.

My cam is a 244/244 .610/.610 114 lsa. It's friggin smoooooth. A car next to me can't tell anything has been done, the exhaust sound is very tame. It's actually very quiet at idle, but when I hit it, HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL is it loud.
I actually expected a 230/230 cam, but I'm glad the 244/244 was put in. In the beginning i only wanted around 450 RWHP so the idle would definitely be to my liking the first time out. I guess ARE built in a little bonus plan for me because the idle is awesome. Since I'm making what quite possibly could be well over 500 RWHP, thats why I have the fuel pressure problem. As soon as Mike Norris saw the spec sheet he told me that i would be having fuel pressure issues, he told me this before the motor was in the car.

Good problem to have.

Sounds AWESOME and i'm glad FLP got the trany squared away. I am surprised though that you didn't immediatley put in the aftermarket fuel pump so that your baby could be running 100% and you could get your final dyno numbers.

Best of luck and i will be joining you real soon in the class of big cubed A4 LS1s. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

ARE does build a killer 436ci! I had one put in my car last April and had a lot of fun all summer putting about 15,000 miles on it.

Mine has a 242/242 .612/.612 114LSA cam and made 480rwhp/495rwtq through LS1 castings and 1 5/8" diameter headers. I too couldnt be happier with the idle and street drivability characteristics of this beast!

I am just waiting for spring to get here in the frozen north so I can start driving it again. Looking at it sitting in the garage everyday is driving me nuts!

Can you tell me what HP & TQ your motor was making at the wheels at 5,000 rpm. I'm trying to get an estimate of what mine will make with a full pull on the dyno.
I spoke (e-mailed) with a guy that has an ARE 436 with the same cam as you, with 11:1 CR that made 453 RWHP at 5,000 rpm and a total pull of 496 RWHP and 505 TQ @ 6,300 rpm.
If I remember right, I have 11.5:1 CR and the slightly bigger cam.

Thanks

Damn Matt according to you graph it was still climbing at the limiter which looked like 6200 why don't you let it go up to 6800 or so and see what you get.

It literally just had the cam broken in for about 15 mins and then was driven into the dyno run for a couple runs and WOT tuning.

BTW, my compression ratio is about 11.5.

Awesome numbers. My car is at ARE right now getting almost the same set-up as you. 436ci, FLP Level IV, hardened outputshaft, BoCool Rad, t-stat, Line-lock, etc.

I am so pumped to get the car back. Wade and crew are AWESOME and take great pride in their work. I wouldn't hesitate for one minute to recommend them. There's a reason tehy are one of the top tuners in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully have my car next week or so. I'll keep everyone posted. <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
