02 ls1 engine trouble

02 ls1 engine trouble My 02 ss has a vibration at about 1500 to 1900 rpm. Happens when parked and reved slowly or going down the road. Could this be a harmonic balancer? Or something else? Any help would be great. Thanks.
Are you positive that it is the drivetrain/probably engine? it couldnt simply be something loose that is vibrating off of harmonics of the engine. usually when you have this problem at a specific rpm, as specially as narrow of a window as you specified its something to do with engine harmonics. If it were me and I was sure there was an issue, I would put a set of spark plugs in it and see if it went away. Could be as simple as a misfire. If it is something you can capture On video try to do that and post back
No prob. Id love to help you figure it out as im sure others would as well but as of now theres just not enough info. If youre really unsure and concerned you may want to take it to a mechanic if youre not mechanically inclined yourself

Ok. I tried to video it but you can't really see the shaking. I can actually feel the shake at an idle but its very faint,and it gets worse to about 2000 rpms, may still be there after that but it's hard to tell. The shaking is the worst at about 1700. Thats when I really notice it.
I went ahead and changed the plugs and wires. No difference, still shakes. Any ideas?

Completely stock, at least for now, don't want to start mods untill I know the engine is ok.(internally at least). I agree with you I thought it was missing but i changed plugs wires and no difference. I asked my dad (old service manager for chevy) he said it wasn't missing and he thought it could be harmonic balancer or internal but he quit sorting on them in 1996 so he is not familiar with the ls engines and troubles. I'm thinking at this point I'm going to have to try buying a balancer. Hope it fixes it cause it's about $130.
Is there any diference in balancers or should I just find the cheapest stock one. I know I can get underdrive pulley but not sure it's worth it. Thanks again for the help.

Having trouble finding the tools (pressure gauge to fit spark plug holes) to check compression but a friend told me if someone installs a clutch and doesn't line up the balance marks it could do this. I had not heard of this but he said that the clutch and flywheel have marks (like X's or something) that your suppose to line up. And the last owner had the clutch replaced right before I bought it. Has anyone heard of this? Just wondering. Still trying to find someone close with tools I need to check compression.
Is it a recently purchase it?, poly mounts can give vibration, or u may have worn out motor mounts..I went poly mounts no regrets, however with a poly trans mount i get a little vibration at time around those same rpms..

Yes I just got the car about a month ago. The best way to describe the shaking is it's like going down the road with a tire slightly out of balance. That is what I thought I had but couldn't tell which tire it was coming from. I was going to have all four balanced untill I noticed it does it sitting still by reving the engine slowly.
Still looking to find compression tools but in the meanwhile I removed both the belts and it still shakes. I did notice a little shake from the crank pulley.
Like I said, I will post compression #s when I can get it done. Don't want to go buy tools when I can borrow them.

i have the same problem down the the very T, and i mean T. my vibrations show up off idle and run the whole rpm range. just at different rpms they are very noticable at say 2000-3500 is wrost, but it's vibrating the whole time.
btw i did a comprassion check, fuel pressure check, new plugs, new wires, new o2 on drivers front.
i ran the engine with the belts and tq converter undone and the engine still vibrates. i also changed the motor mounts to polys and nothing i have done to date has helped.
so please fix you're car and tell me how you fixed it. if you can please post videos of before and after.
sitting inside the car and reving the rpms the whole car vibrates and peices inside the car rattle and the steering wheel, good lord. so yea.. hurry up and fix it.
also the parts stores should have rental tools.. i bought mine, but thats cause i want them for down the road.
