Was right about to ask the question of whether or not Shane's method was accurate enough for GM lifters. Thanks for your input vettenuts

So is the right method of 1 1/2 turns right when torquing down the rockers. You snug them down then 1 1/2 turns.

Why doesnt anyone just follow the instructions that came with the measuring pushrod?? It tells you how to do it. Too many people make it so confusing and complicated with this 1/2" turn here and there, pre-load this and that....Just follow the instructions from Comp.

Not exactly, or perhaps not literally. The right method is to torque the oem rocker to 22 foot pounds - if torquing them to 22 foot pounds requires 1 1/2 turns from the point of zero-lash, you have about 0.091 inch preload which is considered by many to be acceptable.

My Comp tool bought new off the shelf had no instructions included, so the procedure posted here was useful.

old thread i know but a lot of relevant stuff to my questions
im puting a set of sps 11deg heads on a l98 /ls3
and a set of morel link bar lifters and yella Terra adjustable roller rockers
so what is the starting point to get the wright length push rod with adjustable rockers would you put a set of 7.400 in and adjust to suite or what ??? the adjustable rocker has me thrown as there no base to work from as i see it
i'm told the morels need a shorter rod and only about 30'tho preload

and 11deg cnc heads who knows
any help would be appreciated

With adjustable-height rockers, the contact patch on the valve tip becomes a variable you have to control before buying pushrods. This is adjusted by setting your rocker height.

There's more to read on this subject than I'd want to try and regurgitate from memory, so do some research.

Synopsis: set the rocker height to get that rocker tip planted just outboard of the center of the valve tip with the lifter on the cam's base circle, and ensure that the end of the contact path during lobe action leaves you with a nice centered swipe across the valve tip. When you've got the correct rocker height for this, with whatever preload you want and using an adjustable pushrod, you're there.
