I had planned on running a 10295, but let a vendor talk me into a 10296 since they didn't have any of the 10295's in stock. I have a stock shortblock heads/cam car, and I think I'm running into this issue whenever I do any spirited driving for more than a few minutes at a time.
I know it's a suggestion to drill holes in the lifter retainers to allow the oil to drain quicker.

Here's a thread about it:

The downside is you need to pull the heads to get to the lifter retainers.

I'm aware and understand that "mod" has been beaten to death, but for a heads/cam street car, is there any benefit? I mean, if the heads are pulled anyways (going from 241's to 243's), while you were there doing lifters and retainers, would it be worthwhile?

This would be with a ported LS6, however....

Well, I'll answer your with question with another question/scenario.

Say you put in the new pump, with the new heads only to find that doing a spirited highway blast your oil pressure starts to drop. The assumption is that your oil pump is now starving for oil because it's all trapped on the top end of the motor and is having a hard time returning to the pan quick enough. Then you have to pull the heads and modify the retainers to get the oil back to the pan and pickup tube quicker.

I plan to drill my lifter retainers tonight while this is fresh in my mind. I don't road race the car, but I am going to a high flow/pressure pump, so I don't want issues with it later on. There's no real downside to it.

I'm no expert, but I know that polishing the oildrain back areas assist in returning the oil to the pan

Old thread so i know the search function is working. For those running high volume pumps and worried about oil starvation, use my knowledge to help you.

Fbody oil pan with 8 quarts

windage tray depth into pan, remember the gasket subtracts some

How that equates into the pan.

I run 7 quarts all the time. As you can see, if you factor in filter volume and whats being pumped around inside the engine, you could easily run more.
