Kwikcad500-Mallory? Whats that? And it will vibrate that bad? I was going to have the rotating assembly balanced, but i didnt know it would affect harmonics that bad.
Mallory is an alloy of tungsten, Its primarily used as a balance weight which is added to the crankshaft of an engine, where the existing counterweight is not large enough to compensate for the weight of the reciprocating and rotating components attached to the crankshaft's connecting rod journals. Rather than add to the counterweight by welding or fabrication, holes are drilled in structurally safe positions in the counterweights, and "slugs" of Mallory metal are inserted and fastened securely.

I was recently planning to use a 5.3 crank which has the same casting numbers as the 6.0 crank in my build but the front and rear rod journals were
heavily drilled and would have taken quite a bit of mallory to balance with my heavier dome pistons. Also when mallory is needed on the rear most counterweight the reluctor ring must come off. The LS1 5.7 crank is lighter than the LQx 6.0 peice so your machine shop will just have to add mallory where it's needed. It can get expensive(mallory itself) depending on how much is needed so ya may want to talk with your machine shop before getting too deeply involved. Hope this helps.

Wow, i didn't realize all of that, sounds like it WOULD be less expensive just to buy a crank that goes to the LQ4..... Damn, its never as easy as you think it is! lol Ah well, maybe i can find a forged crank! Thanks for the heads up man!

The main bearings just have the main bearings, and if you want the rod bearings they are listed on the same page and purchased separately.

Yes, rod bearings are sold as individuals, so you can get singles of any size rod bearing, no problem!

No problem, i would look for a good used LQ crank, they will handle what 95% of us can throw at it. Unless you plan on making over 900hp thats the way to go. The crank in my "new" high comp LQ has almost 400k on it, i had it checked out, polished and balance the rotating assembly, it's ready to see 7000+ rpm for the rest of its life.
