1. CHEAP 2. HIGH HP 3. DEPENDABLE

You can pick any 2 at a time!!! Youll have to throw the third out the window.

High HP + cheap = boom!!!!!! Do it right or don't do it at all. I got to 430 RWHP with a small cam, stock intake and a great set of Dart Pro heads. That set up was very moderately priced and just broke a valve spring. Now it's costing me another $5K to replace all the valves, valve springs, forged Mahl pistons, Eagle I beams, bored 10 over, balance and blueprint the entire engine.
Your tranny and rear end will fail on your first high rpm drop. Your clutch will need to able to handle 600 hp also.

The cheapest way I can think of would be to do Full Exhaust on a 01-02 LS1 and then drop $1,500 on a top of the line nitrous kit and spray a 150 shot. If that doesn't put you over, it should get you pretty close.

Also - Patrick G has a great write up on how to get the 98-02 TA/Camaro into 500rwhp territory N/A, but it certainly isn't cheap. I think he went with Tony Mamo ported AFR 205's, a Custom Spec'd cam by himself, and Full Bolt-on's including a ported Fast Combo.

I had planned on doing a forged 383 setup for my car and when I was looking into it, I was finding anywhere from 450-550 rwhp.

Although it would be more expensive to set up correctly I have seen a few procharged ls1's with stock internals putting down mid 500's on low boost. 500rwh with heads/cam is a tall order but it can be done.
