Default need help checking ptv with clay

This is my issue, I bought 2 solid lifters to do this but confused on pushrods. Do I want to get my pushrod lenghth correct with preload etc, and then install the solid lifters and check it or do I want to get the pushrods at zero lash with the solids in to check. I know with using the pushrods I am running my ptv is going to be less with a solid. Does the lifters pump up solid like the solids are already

The hydraulic lifters self adjust and don't quite pump up such as the solids, but its better to have alitttle more clearance than hounded than not enough.

No they do not pump up all the way like a solid does... that is why you have preload as you want the lifter cup to ride around the center of its travel...

When you check your PTV use whatever push rods you have.. You just need to adjust the rockers to zero lash with no preload... then spin the motor over and measure your clay...

You can space the rocker stand up with washers to get zero preload/lash (or close to it depending on washer thickness). If you use check springs you could also dial in zero preload/lash with an adjustable pushrod, but not sure I'd run them with full spring pressure. With check springs I've done it with hydraulic lifters as the light spring pressure won't bleed down the lifter.

ZEro lash, use the adjustable an check springs. Better yet, use the dial indicator method and the clay as a double check.

You don't have to shim anything up...

Use your OE rockers
put your pushrod in and then set your rocker on top...start the bolt for the rocker... now adjust it to zero lash just like you would a small block chevy... turn the bolt until there is no play in the pushrod.... The trunion may not be all the way against the head but that is ok...your now at zero lash... then turn the motor over and measure.... Like stated above you should either run a solid lifter or checker springs so your measurements are accurate...

other option would be an adjustable push rod and adjusting it until you get it the rigth length with zero lash...

I use the first method with no issues....
