Default Smoke on start up/didn't bleed my coolant system..

Heard it might be some coolant in there causing the smoke I got on start up after my cam swap.

Would it be bad if I didn't "burp" the cooling system? My dad and I didn't know there was really a procedure to do it so I just filled the radiator up, ran it a little, then topped it off with the cap on the radiator during the run. Is this really bad?! I just went out and took the cap off and started squeeizing the upper rad hose and it sounds like it was pushing air out a little bit, like bubbles, but it would sound like it was sucking it back in if I just let it loose, not if I slowly let go though but it doesn't seem like the upper hose is getting any tighter with coolant...anyone?!

When I drove it around a little it got up to 170 degrees and stayed there though... (I have a 160 thermo)

You are ok... Once the car cools off you can the pull the radiator cap and let the car run until the thermostat opens...all the air will escape and you can top it off....

Quickest way to bleed air out is to remove the hose from the steam crossover tube.
