Default TR230 Cam, got shipped Patriot Extreme's instead of Golds

Hey all,

Long story short, I am doing a cam swap with the TR230 cam. I'm doing a cam only swap, stock lifters, etc. Car has 40k on it.

I ordered the cam with Patriot Gold valvesprings.

I ordered the cam package a month or so ago but TR has been waiting on the valvesprings as they were on backorder. I just got my shipping notification email and it looks like they sent me Patriot Gold 'Extremes' instead.

I'm going to call TR tomorrow, as it may of been a typo, or they messed up and sent me nicer valvesprings for no extra cost, or they just sent them out instead of the Golds because they had the extreme's come back in stock and not the Golds (and TR knew I needed the parts asap.) I'll find out more about that later.

But if I did end up with the "upgraded" Extreme valvesprings, are they OK to run with this "moderate" cam? The TR230 is not that extreme of a cam and I do not want to run a hefty spring incase it might prematurely damage a lifter etc. THEN AGAIN, this is my first cam swap and I'm a noob to all of this.

Am I ok to run the Extreme springs vs the Golds?

Thanks!

Should be a better spring. You will have to pull the springs every 20k to check spring presure

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I hear it is a better spring, but I'm not sure if it would be better for reliability or not (I have no idea.) I think I heard once that having a spring way too hardcore for a chosen cam can be stressful on lifters, or something. That is why I'm asking this.

I have also been told to check the springs for pressure, depending on the size of the cam, etc. Considering this is not my DD and I only put a few K miles on the car a year, it would take me forever to reach another 20k. So I'll just check them every 3 years or so I guess.

They are nicer springs. Although not to different- gold's 650" lift, Extreme 660" lift. The Heftier springs would last longer with a cam. I'am not sure about the lifter concern though.

Ok thanks for the response, I appreciate it. If anybody else has any concerns with this or lifter stress (or lack of) that would be swell, too.

Pretty sure the extremes will last longer and I wouldn't worry about ur lifters... The springs don't look like they are much different. BTW good looking car, I like the blue and I also just ran over 40k

Alright looks like everything will be ok and I got a nicer spring for no added cost. Sounds good to me and thanks to TR!
