Best low end power cam???
Thanks,
Dan
I chose the TR220 because I wanted a near stock idle. I won't stay the TR220 is a stock idle, but you have to know what you are listening for to tell the difference. The TR224 cam definately has a non-stock idle. No questions by anyone if you are cammed or not.
The TR224 makes kick *** power. I decided to give up 10 hp / 10 ft-lbs. tq for a better idle. As somebody said earlier the torque curves are sick for that cam on a stock head.
Either the TR220 or the TR224 will make more power than you can put to the ground on the street. With my TR220 first and second gear are pretty useless on the street under any kind of agressive acceleration. Third gear is still very touchy. If I were a drag racer, the TR224 would be a good choice as I could hook it up with slicks on the track...but being a 100% street driven toy, I accepted the fact that a TR220 was more than enough for the street and has a very good idle to boot.
This was the logic I used in picking one vs. the other. I hope this helps.
300rwtq @ 2,300 rpm where pull starts even with stock & gains at all points there after.
350rwtq @ 2,700-2,800 rpm
365rwtq @ 3000 rpm
370rwtq @ 3500 rpm
380rwtq @ 3800 rpm
400rwtq @ 4500 rpm
The graph maybe a little hard to read

I believe the 224 is the most common size for street/strip, but I heard a little less aggressive is a good decision to base a street cam on. I would guess the combination of good idle, good tq, and great top end makes these cams hard to beat, even down low.
