Default 4.8L Question????

Ive been doing a little research and reading some forums and I had a question about a 4.8L. Would it be possible to bore the block to take an LS1 piston, and put something like a 383 stroker crank in it with 6.0 rods or some kind of set up like that? Just looking into building a high compression small block out of a tiny 4.8. Any suggestions or comments greatly appreciated!

yes you can a 4.8 uses the same block as a 5.3 and people do it to 5.3 all the time

Would there be any PTV clearance issues with a 4.00 in stroke with a 6.00 rod with stock cylinder heads?

More than likely an aftermarket piston is going to have a valve relief. Typically you won't have a PtV issue but it is something you always want to check. Also, you might look at a 6.125" rod length. That is a more common setup and there will be more pistons available.

Call up Texas Speed, they should be able to get you just about anything you need....

You can get flat top, dome, or dished pistons with just about any size valve relief you need. If its not as common, you might just have to wait a week or two for the factory to custom make them for you....but I agree with Jon, if you go with a 6.125" rod you piston options will be better and probably cheaper

Do it. You can make pretty good power with a 4.8L based 383, but your cam choice seems a little odd. What heads, bolt ons, etc?

I would think a standard split with these duration numbers would be better than the reverse split

Ill be sportin the stock cylinder heads, i will probably have them ported and polished, and i thought the standard split was for forced induction applications, i really dont know what i need for a cam setup as far as the 383 arrangement, could yall throw out some suggestions about which cam would be best suited for that high compression im lookin for, i just want to squeeze as much power outta the 383 as i can. Thanks so much everyone
