Default Heads for heavy truck

What heads will work best with a lq4 in a 6000 lb truck. I dont want to loose low end. It has a 18-2000 stall in it now. Also a HT1 cam from scoggins. Has good low end now but want more power. Has stock 317 now.

The stock heads aren't that bad the CR is what holds the LQ4 back. You could go with a ported L92 setup. But you'll need the LS3 or L92 intake as well.

Ported 243 will work as well and should up CR as well.

To me if your swapping heads might as well go with ported units.

The l92 heads will loose too much low end i bet. And i will have to buy new manifold. Was thinking about the ported 243. What would that bring my compression up to with stock size gaskets?

I would not worry too much about losing torque from a head swap. When I went from stock 243s to milled Trick Flow 215s on my LS6 the torque stayed the same between 1,500 and 3,300 rpm and increased at all levels above the 3,300 rpm. (I had the same mild EPS cam on both setups). I think you have to swap in something pretty aggressive to lose torque.

Compression 317-243:

I have seen where car craft or some mag like that swaped L92s on to a lq4 and lost a good bit of power under 3 grand. I drive most of the time from 1000-3500. Around town it is sitting at about 1100 rpm. Down the freeway it is under 2000 at 70. I would like to still be able to do a 1100 and have power to pass with out downshifting or unlocking converter.

I have a duel plane edelbrock maniflod with FAST EZ EFI. I have 317 factory heads. I like the cam i have now except for the lsa is tight and smells like gas at idle even at 14 to one.

mill the 317s and do a valve job.I am guessing no cats.small cams with tight lsa make good low end power.

It has good low end now was just seeing if swaping them out for different ones will keep low end good and add some more power.
