Default Rebuild in progress...need a little help

Current state: 100k hard patrol miles on motor, trans and rear. Not to mention suspension. Check sig for current mods.

Wants: Not a stock rebuild. Want over 400 hp/tq or even more, but remain streetable with occasional drag use. Only concerned with motor and trans rebuild with rear to be replaced with a 12 bolt. Suspension can wait for now. Car is a 1998, so I want to replace with center bolt heads (have covers and coil bracket already)

Possible directions for new motor(with your input of course):
6.0 iron block, stroked to 402 ci or
LS6 aluminum block, no resleeving but stroked to 382

Remember, this needs to be streetable so I need a good cam and/or converter match.

Budget: $8k

I am also doing this project on paper so I can match or change with your input.

Thanks a bunch,
Dan

382 on a stock block, honed. A nice little cam, maybe TSP231/237 but on a 114*. PP Stage 3 LS6 heads. Did you forget the LS Intake if not get one. That should get you around 400rwhp, with that stall the cam feels pretty good Then beefcake the trans, 12bolt, add a switch to throw for that extra 200hp shot and your golden.

I agree, a nice 382ci stroker with a medium sized cam (230 to 236 intake duration) should get you 450-460 rwhp and around 440-450 ft-lbs no problem. Shop around for some good heads, put most of the research into the heads, as they are the most important item on any engine build.

A mild 382ci will run as well as an aggressive heads/cam 346ci, but will be much more streetable and reliable.
