Cam selection shouldn't be based on sound... besides, even small cams can chop with the best of them.

Cam lope sound is due to overlap and exhaust system used. ~9 degrees overlap sounds great and is good power territory for street setups. All those big cams are ridiculous unless you actually race regularly.
But we all know juveniles have to be juveniles.

True statement all the way. Stop throwing the bigest damn cam in these cars!!! Auto's don't like to be shifted extremely high BTW. There are people around here that just put ms4's in and shift at 7k. Makes me wanna everytime I see one

Shift the 98 rodbolts and 4l60e at 6700 and you'll change your mind about LS1 reliability

If you're only willing to spin it to 6400, I'd consider a cam that peaks around 5900 to make more power under the curve with the poor shift extension of the 4l60.

Well when does the 228r make peak power? What would be a cam that makes peak power at 5900?

I'm not sure exactly but I would think about 5900-6k. It would be perfect shifting at 63/64. From what I have heard (don't surf the dyno forum much) the MS3 peaks at like 63/6400. You could probably carry that out to a 7k shift if you wanted.
