2000 SS M6, doesn't seem that impressive.
Haven't been into the hot car thing for awhile but my job requires me to drive alittle bit so i figured I'd get something fun. I really wanted a Blue '02-04 Z06 but I came acrossed a 2000 Camaro SS M6 for a price that was just about too good to pass on. Its got 47K miles, flowmasters and the rest of it is stock. Its definately funner than most daily drivers but I just thaught it would have more punch after watching some videos on Youtube. I guess those cars were modded pretty heavy. I think instead of trying to make it something it isn't I'll probably try to flip it next spring and go for a Z06. I was alittle pissed about insurance on it too. I got a quote for full coverage on a Z06 awhile back and thaught that a Camaro would be alot cheaper but its only like $85 a year cheaper. Not really seeing the advantage to going with this car other than the price was good and tires are alittle cheaper than the 18's. Any thaughts on how to wake it up alittle more for not much money. Also I notice the window sticker on these claimed 28mpg highway and it looks like I'm getting around 22 and I drive pretty much 99% highway without traffic or stopping at 65-70 mph.

Did a oil change today with synthetic. Guy I purchased it from claims he always did sythetic but who knows. It needs brake pads soon and I'll probably do fuel filter and plugs when I do the brakes. The tires have lots of tread but the car sat so much they are dry rotting so I figured I'd just be alittle extra aggressive on them since they are just about dry rotted anyway. After driving this car for 2 weeks it surprises me how many people try to block pass or outrun you just because I'm in a Camaro SS. Never really had people doing that before. Sorry to the other dumbasses on the road but minivans and econo cars just don't quite hang with these.

How long have you been driving it? it took me awhile to get really good at my m6. i say really good because i could get around just fine but when it came to launching and shifting at hight rpm, that was a different story. it could also be your tires, are they hooking and lifting the front end up a bit? or do they spin? when is the last time plugs and wires were done? these cars are notorious for having hard to change spark plugs so many people avoid it till its an absolute must. those are a few things that come to mind......

Put fresh rubber on it right away. You don't want a blow out. If those are the original tires, you are really rolling the dice.
Factory plugs were rated to 100K. Not that I would run them up to that mileage, but at 47K they are probably not causing problems. I bought a 2000 SS last year with 95K on the clock. It ran fine, but I pulled the plugs and discovered they were original. Replaced them and the wires shortly after that discovery, but they didn't look as bad as I thought they would.
LOL at SLP lid comment. It's a good mod... but good for like 10 RWHP. It's one of the standard "first mods" so go ahead. You might notice a little SOTP difference.

If it sat long enough to rot the tires it probably needs gone over if the tires rotted the plug wires probably aren't great and the fuel filter is probably had also if the guy babied it there is probably quite a bit of carbon build up

as a good initial mod I would vote for a good exhaust system (headers and good catback). Theres alot of restriction to the stock system not to mention it will sound great while you abuse those old tires.

If you don't think your cars up to par go race another near stock LS or another car near your power level that way you can get at least a somewhat educated baseline, it'd be a lot cheaper than paying for a dynotune. The Flowmaster ain't doing **** really so the car's pretty much bone stock. I'd first throw on a lid/FIPK, LS6 intake, manual , & do all the free mods along with all the routine maintenance and that should wake her up noticeably. If you buy used you should be able to get all that for around $500. Gears will do a ton too, but it definitely ain't going to help your gas mileage as stated.

A full Dyno tune, the tune will give you a huge increase in power with the easy first step mods and a much better fuel mileage regardless, you do have to be careful of the right foot though to get this as your new found power will have your foot feeling like lead when the need arises.

It looks like everybody made some good points. I plan on locating a dyno shop and having a tune done. The pipes are pretty black so its rich. I'll be doing a better cold air intake too. I doubt I'll ever put anything like an LS6 intake on it since this probably isn't a long term car. I still think a blue a Z06 in the future.

Doesn't that stuff throw a code on OBDII if its a problem? Not being a smartass but I work at a shop and never saw any O2 or CAT problems that didn't show up on the dash first. Then again I haven't been doing this forever so I could be mistaken. Maybe I should just do longtubes with no cats at all. In this state there is no inspections. You could probably drive a 1000 H.P. dual 4bbl carb car around without worrying about getting checked.
