I have a 145xxx mi ls1 in a 2000 ws6. Unfortunantly, I wasn't diligent enough on last cam install and the timing bolts backed off. You know the rest. So far the worst of the damage is #8 exhaust lifter is wedge in the lifter bore. My question to you is "What is worth it". I have roughly 5k budget. My thoughts are: 1) fresh ls2. 2)rebuild current and add new cam/heads. 3) find used ls2 on craigslist. The car is 80% daily driver 10%drag race 10% road race. Thanku for responses.

You could pickup an iron 6.0l out of a truck....only adds 87 pounds over an aluminum block

If you are on a budget, I would get a used lq9 engine and build that. Allot cheaper than the ls2.
