Default Valve Spring Retainer Question...LS1

I bought a 99 Formula that had a broken valve spring. We had the head redone and found out what it had for springs...1.265OD, .875ID, 120 @ 1.80, 350 @ 1.20, Single w/ Damp 430 Rate, 1.10 Coil Bind. I was told they had titanium retainers so I had them send me the retainer that went with this spring...7 deg, 1.25 X 11/32. When Installed, this retainer increases my installed height because of the taper where the locks go (the 1's my head currently have are flat with no taper. My question is, how do I explain this to someone over the phone? I know I'm new on here and there is probably already a thread about this, but I thought I'd try. There is so much good information on here when I try to search for it I end up reading about other things I need to know! LOL

Retainers do affect installed height. I do not know to make it any simpler over the phone.

It will only change the installed height of the spring ... the height of the valve stem will obviously remain the same.

So how much change are you talking? ... It probably only makes a slight difference in spring loads anyway.

It's enough that my rocker hits the retainer before the valve stem.

Time to get a set of retainers and split locks that are compatible.
