It has dual springs, I'm guessing they are the PRC springs from TSP. He said they were good for .650 lift. The springs were installed on the original LS1 heads and the cam was installed in the engine when it was put in the car, so they both only have about 5000 miles on it.

This would be my guess from what it looks like.

jbruder - did you find a broken spring? It seems that would be apparent at this point.

I haven't pulled the spring off yet, but by looking at it it doesn't appear to be broken

Looks like valve broke, then beat the holy **** out of the top of the piston.

Yea, I'm thinking the head of the valve broke for whatever reason.

I just pulled the motor out last night. I need to get an engine stand then we'll know for sure what happened.

For a stand, go to harbor freight and ask for a coupon code when you get to the register.

The guy at my store gave me the 4-leg 1-ton stand for $59.

I'll have to check out Harbor Freight.

What do you all think about having a re-sleeving my bad cylinder? Or should I just go ahead and try to find a different engine?
