Cam retainer plate...

Check the gasket on the back side. It is probably blown out.

Shane

Also, the timing chain damper will work with a double row set.

Cool, Ill check that.

I've already got the C5r chain, so no more double roller for me.
Thanks for the tip

Common for some shops to stake the soft plugs like that to prevent movement...

I took the cam retainer plate off. Didn't notice a "blown" gasket, but it is so flat that it is flush with the plate. I'll just pick up a new one.

Other than that, I dont think there is any thing else I can change while I'm in there.

Where are people locating cam retainer plates now-a-days? I have a spare I'm holding onto because I heard they were discontinued/hard to get.

I found them on various websites but I'm just going to try the dealer first. They did switch to a new design with counter sunk holes and bolts, so maybe what's what you're thinking of?

Discontinue the old one and the new design superceeds for all LS motors.

If the retainer plate gasket is completely flat or hard it will usually result in low oil pressure but I'm not sure it would be as bad as your problem is. The rear cover gasket can do the same thing as well as a cracked oil pump pickup.

As far as the LS1 cam retainer plate being discontinued, you are correct. The new style is the only one available. You will need the special bolts as well or you can get (4) 8mmX1.25 X 16mm pan head cap screws.

Yeah, I'm hoping its a result of something I am replacing. Would a rear cover gasket result in a oil leak of any kind? I've only had a little oil leak from the bottom, drivers side of the timing cover. I've already thought and considered the pickup tube being cracked. That would be my next troubleshooting step.

I picked up the new cam retainer plate today from the dealer. They had 2 bolts and had to order 2 more that will be here tomorrow.

Still waiting on my oil pump and the rest of my gaskets....

I think when he said rear cover gasket he was referring to the rear gasket where it comes around the inside and seals off the oil journal portion just like the front plate does. It wouldn't cause an external leak but rather an internal leak that you couldn't see but could effect your oil pressure.

Still waiting on my damn oil pump and gaskets!!!
Note to self: never place another order from GMPartsDirect!!! 7-10 days to process an order and ship it? C'mon, that's ridiculous.
