Default ls1 head bolts ??

has anyone had a problem like this while putting the bolts in.. I have a 02 ls1 ta.. used victor reinz Oe bolts. the top m11s went in great. the bottom row on both sides threaded in couple threads and then was moderatly hard to put in after that.. this was the case with all bottom ones.. after being difficult for lots of turns.. it would break loose and was much easier to turn.

I blew down the holes, then chased them to clean, then blew compressed air 2 more times... the bolts had the lock tight already on them. dried.. I felt it was the problem.. but why no problem with the top threads?

on one bolt, which is when I stopped... there was a loud pop and was easy after that.. It sounds like it still had trash or water in them.. but I cleaned it throughly....
anybody else had this happen???

sounds odd. they dont thread in free, but they shouldnt be hard and popping. be sure where you heard the pop you didnt crack the block there. I dont want to alarm you because youre probably fine, but you need to double check it

Some resistance is normal and some popping is normal. I am skeptic about the compressed air though, since I have never been able to get all of the coolant out using compressed air no matter how I applied it.

from now on I will just clean the locktite thats already on the bolts off... it was dry and sure had something to do with the resitance... as far as cleaning out the bolt holes... thread chaser and compressed air are the only way I know to get it done... next time I will do it 4 to 5 times... since it seems 3 wasn't enough.. I was really pissed when I heard the pop.
took all the bolts back out and all the threads are fine. I never got to torqueing them down.. was just getting them close with a regular wrench and then was gonna use a torque wrench.. tomorrow I will probally be cranking it and will know if somethings wrong in about 10 minutes...

thanks for the input...

At least everything is ok.
After using the compressed air to get most of the coolant out, roll up a paper towel very tight and drop it into the hole to soak up the rest of the water. Repeat as many times as you need to until the paper towel is dry. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

That sounds about right. It's easier when you use some fastener lube like the stuff ARP sells to put on their head bolts.
