Default 383 stroker cam sizes?

Decided to go with a 383 n/a build in my 2002 ls1 and talking to Texas Speed atm with the kit,
i was looking at comps 231/239 113 lsa cam, but starting to think a bigger cam like the Texas Speed 244/248 .612"/.615" Camshaft, any one got something similar in a 383 and whats it like to drive on the street and what size stall do you run in a 4l60e?

vehicle's not a daily just a weekend car, after a cam with good torque and power out of the build, been looking and these two are options i'm looking at or if anyone has any other suggestions to look at as well.

Thanks in advance.

I ran a 238/242 in my stock cube 346 and it was a little too big, then pulled the same cam out and put it in my 408 and it felt too small, so I think the 244/248 would probably work great in your 383.....right now I'm running a 255/263 in my 408 and am happy as help with it

oh sweet, yeh iv seen the 231/239 comp cam in l98 motors pull 330rwkw, not sure if auto or manual but i think it was an auto and thought that would be good, (mind you was looking at going FI with that or similar size on a 346) but as i'm doing a 383 n/a build and want to try to do it right once i'm looking at these bigger cams, i liked the 2000-7000rpm power band in the comp cam but the tsp cam is 2400-6800 which is close enough to that for me and sounds like it will have plenty of torque and will be running 3.7 diff gears so should be nice with that too.

mods in sig. i love my ms4 383. took the cam out of my 346 and put it in the new motor. LOT more torquey down low and still screams to 7000RPM.

good luck with whatever you decide.

We have had some pretty good luck putting our MS3 and MS4 cams in 383s. Those cams were originally designed as max effort cams for a 346, so when installed on a 383 they are a little more tame because of the extra cubes.

Yeh saw the ms4 sounds like another good one to look at with some proven results, what's the rpm power band like? I noticed it says requires a 3500-3800 stall.

Geoff @ EPS spec me a 242 248 605 617 114+1. Made 488 whp on a street tune and pulls like a freight train from 2k.

Yeh that's almost identical Specs to that one I'm looking at, I'll go a 112lsa, that's what I want it to pull like a freight train from 2000-2500 right through, lots of good choices here

What are your ultimate goals? Nitrous, N/A, or Boost? That will be a big deciding factor in having a cam spec'd. Also what compression are you planning on running?

will be N/A that's what iv decide to go with and sticking to that, no nitrous or FI.
Goals just a tuff street car that can be cruised on a freeway and pull like a freight train so to speak on the street when you hit the gas.
will see the track maybe once or twice a year like LS1 nationals here and weekend use only, if it sees the driving during the week it will be when running the engine in and if have to drive it for some reason as i have a daily i drive atm.

So will be a 383 ls1 N/A, don't want to set a rwhp figure as iv seen mates do this with other cars and been bitterly disappointed with the results when they haven't met them and i don't mean by 1-10 rwhp i mean like 20/30+ rwhp they've missed by.
how ever i will be happy with anything over 440 rwhp.

comp ratio- unsure atm, talking with Matt at texas speed to see what he comes up with, was looking at a 9.5-10:1 but that was cause u was 50/50 on FI, now that matt knows i'm going N/A i'm sure that will be bumped up to a 10.5:1+ we run a 98 octane as our premium fuel here and is recommended from factory so don't know if that means i can bump it up higher and be ok, see what Matt comes up with, i told him we have a 98 octane that i use, just waiting on an email back as with the time differences makes it hard to call.

Will be doing everything properly once so will not be cutting corners, also our road laws have just really tightened up, any sort of FI and nitrous that isn't factory standard will deem the car unroadworthy along with wheels that are not the factory originals, etc, its to stop all the hoons out there from modding cars, so won't see the street a lot, especially not during the week, i work at a place that does roadworthies and we have to go for new license due to the new very stringent laws, apparently there going as far as interiors being non factory will be unroadworthy, its pritty bad.
They haven't started inforcing them yet but its on the way.

With 98 octane you can bump the compression up a little. My 383 was built for nitrous so my cam has a wide split and I run 11:1:1 comp. Since you wanna be N/A something like a 239/242 should work well unless you wanna go bigger.

I'm currently building my 383 and went with the Torquer V2 per John at TSP's recommendations for my goals. Car is 2,800lbs with a 3,600rpm stall in it. Also running 12.5:1 compression though.

The biggest problem with using a shelf grind cam like a MS4 or whatever is that the valve events are timed for a stock stroke motor. Will they work in a 4 inch stroke motor? Will they make power? The answer is yes. Why wouldn't you have a cam speced for your exact setup? There are many other things that need to be accounted for besides just lift and duration numbers. Valve events that will keep your Dynamic compression in spec is crutial. Too late and you leave power on the table and too early and you wont be able to run and timming because you Dynamic will be too high. Even a baby cam with the incorrect specs for your setup will have poor driveabillity. I see guys all the time that run whatever donky dick cams on stock port heads and they drive like **** and make no power till like 3-4k.

Just get a custom grind for your exact setup, it's well worth the 25 bucks.

So what VE's do you recommend for his 383ci engine?

How could you or I possibly recomend anything for this motor when the compression raito is undecided? Besides that the op hasen't stated what cyl heads he is going to run with what airflow numbers or what intake style or size.

So, without that information you also don't know that any of the camshafts recommend in this thread wouldn't work, right? So how can you come into a thread saying the only way is a "custom" grind, without knowing the details?
