Default Cam Decision

Im Currently in between a few cams. As my car sits right now it has:

LS6 Cam
LS6 Intake
LS6 TB
3200 Stall
4.10
241 Heads(stock)
Lid
LT headers
Scorpion Lifters
Chrome moly pushrods

I threw a rod a while back and i'm getting ready to take the motor out and tear it down. Depending on how bad i hurt the mains and the journals of the crank i'll be rebuilding the LS1 or i'll being using a low mileage 5.3L long block from a 2004 Silverado. The cams i'm drawn to are listed below:

228/232--230/232--232/232--232/234

im not trying to be the fastest cam only car or anything along those lines. i've seen plenty of cars run low 11's w/ a cam/bolt-ons/suspension. that's fine for me. I've browsed through the cam threads on the board. i see alot of the guys w/ the t-rex/ms3&4 and most run M6 as well. Everyday driving and VERY frequent street racing. what cam would you choose to use in the LS1 and/or the 5.3L

For the 5.3 I'd recommend our V2 cam and for the 5.7 I'd go with the V4. Feel free to call me with any questions. Chris, 817-750-2000

Thats great cept he doesn't have a truck

I would like to know for sure whether you are going 5.3 or 5.7 before I make my suggestion. And honestly, you need more converter for a weekend toy/frequently raced car, which is what it is sounding like you want. A 3200 is a DD stall IMO.

most certainly not a truck lol its a 01 SS

i actually considered a new converter and since a buddy of mine is going to cut me a deal on a 3500 i'm going to go with that. I'm really hoping to use the 5.7, that's my goal if i can keep the cost of repairs down. since it'll be torn down, i will be balancing the rotating assembly and honing the cylinders a bit to restore the cross hatch for the new rings. The heads will be getting a pretty good amount of port work done while the engine is out as well. i've also been looking @ getting something around 231/234, similar to the Trak cam. any views/input on this.

Cam Motion 228/232 .612/.612 113+4 would fit nicely here.

The V4 I mentioned is very similar to those specs and will take advantage of the ported heads nicely.

I have a 232/236-646/612@114LSA with low miles I can sell you at a great price.. $200.00 plus shipping cost. It's a Futral custom cam and a Cam Motion grind. The cam is in new condition with no marks at all. The reason I am selling it is because I built a new engine and used a new custom cam for my bigger engine. Hit me up if interested..

that's a good deal, only concern is how is this going to perform in a 5.3L with a 3200 stall

Not sure about that.. Maybe a few of the tuning guru's could help answer that question. In my stock bottom end LS1 had a pretty smooth idle because the lobe separation is on a 114LSA.

Pm me if you want to move forward with anything. I can take pictures of the cam and send them to you and I have a few videos of the car at idle so you can hear what it sounded like in the LS1. I would assume it might sound the same in the 5.3L

decided to go a different route. Due to frequent street racing i'm looking for something a lil quieter than normal. i've narrowed my selection down to the following

Comp 269Lr 219/227 .607/.614 112LSA custom gound w/ 114LSA

Comp 273Lr 223/231 .610/.617 112LSA custom ground w/ 114LSA

TR CheaTr v3 219/230 .607/.604 117 LSA

motor is a 5.3L
ported 862 heads
LT headers
LS6 intake
LS6 TB
Lid
2800-3200 stall
4.10 gears
175hp nitous

Why not a 6.0? All you need is a shortblock.

More converter, 3600 minimum. I recommend ptc.
