Default tsunami cam vs trex cam

Im looking at putting a cam in my ls1 and im debating between the tsunami cam from tsp or the thunder racing trex cam any advice?

How about some info on your car and intentions? Full race, street/strip, street only? What size motor and probably most importnant what mods do you have now? Those cams require alot of supporting mods.

That being said I run a variation of the tsunami, its a 235/240 .620/.620 112+4 and it runs great. Was spec'd for me by Ryne@CMS and he did the tuning as well. Made 475 rwhp and 435 rwtq from a forged 347 M6 through a 9" and runs awesome.

I have a cam for sale and it's close to the t-rex specs. 246/254 615/596 114lob. it was from vengeance racing and was ground to make alot of power,pull hard and have a nice idle to drive around town. The cam has 1,000mi or less since i never drive the car. I removed it for something bigger. it was in a sl2 block and will go in your motor. $275.00 shipped. i have the cam card too.

Give us a call & we can discuss your options & goals. The camshafts your considering are a good bit different in duration, but probably only about 5hp peak different side by side on a engine dyno. Personally I think the Tsunami is a great option because the less duration will drive better & bring power in earlier. Not to mention the vastly better p/v clearance will help down the road when selecting a cylinder head. Keeping good p/v is always a great thing to have on your side so you can mill cylinder heads when you order them!

Allright Jason I'll give y'all a call I'm not worried about hp it's just a number I'm worried about better track times and street too bc I do a little racing on the street too.
And sorry my mods at the moment are just bolt ons I've been looking for some ls6 heads and a intake too get ported too a 90mm along with a throttle body I've got a under drive pulley and a 85 mm Maf slp mas airflow sensor laying around... I want a set off 205 afr heads but that's more money than I have Atm lol and I know you can't slap a cam in a car and go I'm just wondering which is better bc my buddy has a tsunami cam he is trying too sell me… the only reason I was looking at the trex was bc it was the record holder for cam only but idk which is why I'm asking

Not a big fan of "which cam" threads but be aware that there is at least 4 versions of the Trex cam. So...make sure you understand what your comparing. Trex to John Doe maybe different to Janes Trex.

the trex doesn't really shine unless you are willing to spin the motor to or above 7k rpm and have the proper supporting mods (430+ gears in an m6 and 4400+ stall in an a4), have a huge intake and very open exhaust. i think the tsunami is something you'd be a lot happier with. it is smaller, therefore will drive better on the street, be easier to tune properly, and have a more usable powerband.

i love the trex as much as the next guy, but the bottom line is 99% of the cars with that cam aren't doing it any justice due to a poor setup. sounds cool, but would most likely run even with or behind a smaller cam better suited to the car. just my $.02 - good luck, i know tsp or tr will take care of you.

welll my goals is some ported ls6 heads with a fast and a big cam with a 200 shot off nitrous i want to be decently quick car possibly a ten on the bottle?and i was planning on turning the car over too 7k i was running a 4 56 gear but i broke it so im running a 3 73 atm....and i know bigger isnt always better but i love the sound off big lol i have a lunati 50005 cam laying around the shop that maked 400 rwhp in my buddies automatic car it ran pretty good but like i said i like the sound off a big cam and i talked too tsp earlyer today thanks guys

I am running the tsunami with the prc stage 2.5 ls6 heads from texas speed. I made 430 to the wheels on that setup with an ls6 intake and supporting bolt ons. Car runs perfect, awesome driveability, and sounds nasty at idle, esp. with the cutout. I just picked up a fast 102 setup and am changing to 1 7/8th headers, and possibly an lq9, but the tsunami is a great cam imo.

Go ahead and get the biggest most badass cam you can find. Just don't be surprised when someone with a properly spec'd setup shows you his tail lights!

TRex = pretty damn big lol

If you're just wanting a mean sounding cam with good street manners just get a medium sized cam (228-232 duration) with less LSA. I've never ridden in or driven a car with a cam like a TRex, but unless your car is dedicated to the track I don't think I'd go with it. I would sacrifice some up top power for low end.

I have the Trex, stock heads, fast 92 and 92 mm tb, 4.30 gears, moser 9 and supporting mods, ie oil pump, rods, valves, about to throw on a 150 shot.. and I love this cam, Its my DD and it does surge a tad bit, had to get used to drive my car period, took me a a day or so to take off just right.. Also have dual cutouts about a foot behind the longtubes with Loudmouth 1... its pretty loud, Dont really open the cutouts hardly ever.. Gets TONS of compliment. I dont regret it one bit, pulls like a train. Funny thing is half these people that say dont get it, havent had it. I Love it, Sounds nasty, intimidating. You wont regret it.

There are many on here (myself not included) that have had it or similar and prefer a more mild cam with a wider power band. I would really like to run against a TRex setup just to see the difference.

I have nothing against the TRex just from what I have read, it is not for everybody. Definitely makes a difference what you use the car for though.

I had a t-rex in a lq9 6.0 with rod bolts and an oil pump along with some 800 dollar cnc heads from the classifieds with a fast 90 90 set up. 10.80 at 126 on the motor. I have 100 lbs pulled out the car.(Back seats removed and a k member). On a 50 shot it went 10.38 at 131!!!
