Default Help Me Help My Buddy

I have a buddy with an LS1 SS Camaro. He has the LS6 intake, LS6 cam, SLP Dual Dual. He just ordered Kooks headers. It traps almost 115 (in good air) as it sits without the headers. He is also going to order the GM LS6 ported heads for the car. I think he needs a bigger cam, but he wants the car to idle almost stock. There has to be a better cam out there that would make better use of these ported heads, but keep a good idle without a lot of lope. What would you guys suggest?

lingenfelter makes great cams that produce good power and sound about as close to stock as u can get with an aftermarket cam

MTI stealth cams are the way to go for a stock like idle. Also, a TR224 on a 114 lsa with a tune is very streetable. This would make great power with very little lope.

Also, keep in mind that there are better heads out there for the same money or less. If he has his mind set on the GM ported heads, then I guess let him be, but I would definately pick up some different heads.

I've heard about the MTI Stealth Cam - what kind of gains have people seen with that cam? He got almost 30 rwhp from the LS6 cam. I know of another guy who got the Lingenfelter cam and didn't gain as much as that. (Although that guy has an auto)

What head would be better than the LS6 ported? If he decided to stay with the LS6 cam, wouldn't those heads be perfect?

Do a search for the stealth cam. There is quite alot out there on it. I would go with some TEA or Absolute Speed or Patriot heads anyday over the GM ported ones(Lingenfelter).

Just because they are more expensive, or because people have seen better gains?

I know a guy with an FM11 cam and it idles very well. Just because a cam is big doesnt mean it cant idle well with a good tune. The LS6 cam is a small cam for ported LS6 heads. You would make great power with a larger cam though.

A guy I know here in St.Louis did a 02-03 Z06 cam and did the ported LS6 heads from Lingenfelter, the car runs good but the cam is not large enough for the heads and needs a larger cam..I would recommend the TR224 114lsa cam as well..that would be an easy 390-410+ RWHP producing combo, I have also read very good things about the MTI stealth series cams as well..

Thanks for the info guys.

Well once the heads are on, he is going to put the Kooks on, and then he is definitely going to get some tuning.

There are a lot of Mustang boys talking crap in the area and he wants to make sure he can take care of them. Running low 12s @ around 114 - 115 with his setup now is amazing (330 rwhp - no slicks/ET streets, only DRs) but not quite quick enough for some of the Saleens and blown GTs around here.

I would personally like for him to get a bigger cam. I would really like to find him one that produces more power than the LS6, but still has a calm idle and is streetable.
