Default simple engine question 5.3l lm7

I am just curious on a couple things about the engine ive got in my 79 chevy 4x4.

Its a 2000 motor, 5.3l LM7.

I was wondering what Rev-limiter should be set at factory, and a safe rpm if i was to alter that limit.
its at 6000 rpm right now, wasnt sure if it was original or part of my tune.

what is the red line on these as well?

trying to keep it in a safe spinning range, something that isnt making it a ticking time bomb, and still keep reliabilty of not scattering it. its just a stock engine for now, until i can get LS6 cam upgrade..etc.

What kind of intake and heads? If its all 5.3 stock stuff, then 6k is fine because it wont make power above that anyway. LS1s had a limiter around 6k, but my stock bottom ends have always spun to 65 without an issue. My 04 block is currently running a 6700 limiter, which all the M6 guys around here do regularly.

dont remember the number on the heads, just original to the engine, and the intake original.

Was still in high school and such when i really got going on this swap so the money wasnt easy to get working low hours going to school to.

Im wanting to put the LS6 springs and cam/lifters in it. Havent done much of a read up of what all i would need to do this, tune obviously but if there are any head mods or anything that would need done.

Okay because i know it wouldnt be good to hold rev limiter, but i was making sure i wasnt pushing it to its absolute if i ran it up that high.

Depending on the cam, heads, and intake, you would probably be good at leaving your limiter where it is. One good way to check is to either go to a dyno and see where your curve falls off at, or run at the track and change your shift points between runs and see if it picks up any. But most stock LS engines are out of steam by 6k.

In referance to You're ? about the stock limiter it is 5600 so 6 must be in Youre tune so yes that's both safe and max usable . As far as an ls6 cam the only thing You have to change would be the springs and the tune of course .

See I thought it was right around 5500 like just said. So 6 is red line I'm assuming. I want it to last and not grenade so may shift lower now lol
